Is this fact? I noticed a post on the Six Pack, and someone had mentioned something of the ilk...Anyone?

I don't believe this is true because the Japanese 1st pressing Target CD of Eliminator is the bloated drum sound that's on every pressing I've ever heard.

While I'm very skeptical about the original mix claim, Eliminator wasn't even one of the remixed albums, was it?

That was my hallucination. I had thought the individual CDs had the original mixes when I picked them up a few years ago. In comparing them to the Rhino Rancho Texacano set, (and the posts of others in the 6 Pack thread) I realized the error of my ways. Sorry.

Hopefully Rhino will reissue the individual albums in their original form.

Don't know Michael, but I remember a very long time ago Steve saying that the master tapes sound correct and not like what we've heard so far from Warner Bros.

Oh, I don't doubt that various versions have 'unique' masterings compared to the original intent, but the whole thing about the '6 pack' albums is that they aren't remastering, they are complete 'remixes' that actually have replaced elements. And since Eliminator isn't (to my knowledge) one of those albums, I don't see it as relevant to determine what mixes are used on any international version.

I'm also not sure what any given Japan issue determines in respect to a European issue of completely different albums. :)

I haven't A/B'd Eliminator between the vinyl & CD - but listening to the CD version, nothing struck me as different except for the bit thinner digital sound. Remember, Eliminator was "pre-80's-ized" Oh wait - it was the 80's! I think thats what Frank Beard wanted to capture when the 70's albums were re-done for six pack and then the individual releases. I can still recall the horror of putting on Tres Hombres - La Grange. when the drums kicked in. I thought something was wrong with my system. "I didn't know they recorded this in a large, empty cinder block room..."

Eliminator is definitely NOT one of the albums that was remixed.

As far as I know, none of the ZZ Top CDs released worldwide of the Six Pack albums were the original mixes. I had the Japanese pressings for Japan of Tres Hombres and Rio Grande Mud and they were the bastardized mixes.

I don't know about the 6 pack, but was responding to the European WEA versions being the question. The determination of the Euro WEA's being the same as the 1st pressing CD available from Japan signify no remixing because they sound identicle.

    Very simple:
Six of the first seven ZZ Top albums were remixed for CD, the exception being Deguello. Any regular edition CD of these titles, as well as the six-pack, have the same crappy remixes. European, South American, Australian, whatever. Eliminator is not in this bunch.

for some reason earlier, I thought Nang had original European WEA(not meaning made in west germany for sale in US)pressings that had the original mixes used. I guess from day one, all the CD releases of these albums were the 1987 remixes. I'm thinking though, that possibly somewhere they may have been released before they were 'bastardized'... Just a thought.
