This is such a tough year to narrow down, so it gets a lot easier when you just look at the UK releases. In no particular order:

Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request
Rolling Stones - Between the Buttons
    The Kinks - Something Else
    Cream - Disraeli Gears
    The Who - Sell Out
    The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers
    Traffic - Mr. Fantasy
Small Faces - s/t Immediate debut
    Procol Harum - s/t

Honorable mention to the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He had to go over there to break through.

Between The Buttons if only for Gered Mankowitz's iconic (primrose hill band photo )album cover.

  8. It was released in 1968, though the lead single (Care of Cell 44) was released in Dec. '67.

Correct recorded june - Nov 1967. No wonder it sounded a tad dated in April 1968. "If you remember the sixties .. You were not there". :)

I'm ambivalent about some of these:

    Kinks -- Something Else
The Who -- The Who Sell Out
Incredible String Band -- The 5000 Spirits etc.
Van Morrison -- Blowin' Your Mind
Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band -- Gorilla
    Beatles -- Sgt. Pepper
    Hollies -- Butterfly
    Hollies -- Evolution
    Them -- Now and Them
Dusty Springfield -- Where Am I Going?

  11. This list is almost perfect. I would substitute Jimi Hendrix "Are You Expeienced" for The Stone's "Between the Buttons". I guess "Magical Mysterty Tour" does not qualify as it was an EP in England, so my runner's up is The Hollies "Butterfly".
