I voted "Other": The Velvet Underground "Squeeze" LP.

My second choice would be the one that wants to keep the loonies on the path.

I can't believe Band On The Run isn't running away with the poll. If you can't count on the SHMF Macca bias, what can you count on?

Voted for Mott, which wins by a fairly large margin over my #2 in the poll, Aladdin Sane. Of course, the New York Dolls debut ties or ever-so-slightly edges out Mott.

Even though there are many listed that are amongst my faves, Quadrophenia is one of my absolute faves so that gets the vote in this poll.

There's also a Pink Floyd and The Who bias.

As much as I love Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Band On The Run, Mind Games and Selling England By The Pound - I've actually chosen Billion Dollar Babies.

    Why?

Just because it's the one album on there that really EXCITES me - each and every time I play it. It was MADE for playing loud! Every song is fantastic and the music is incredibly potent. That's about all I can and feel that I need to say about it...

    SEBT is the close 2nd.

There were so many great albums in 1973.
How could I forget this one?

Probably the greatest year ever for music, maybe tied with 1972. But the best this year was:

Yes - "Tales From Topographic Oceans"

    YesTales.jpg

There are more moments of beauty contained in this album than any other ever made.

    Other gems from 1973:

Jethro Tull - "A Passion Play"
    The Beach Boys - "Holland"
Genesis - "Selling England By The Pound"
    The Who - "Quadrophenia"
    Queen - "S/T"
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Paul McCartney & Wings - "Band On The Run"
Hall & Oates - "Abandoned Luncheonette"
King Crimson - "Larks' Tongues In Aspic"
    Stevie Wonder - "Innervisions"
Gentle Giant - "In a Glass House"
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - "Io Sono Nato Libero"
Hatfield and the North - "S/T"
Caravan - "For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night"
Paul McCartney & Wings - "Red Rose Speedway"
    Cervello - "Mellos"
Joe Walsh - "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get"
Steely Dan - "Countdown To Ecstasy"
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - "Solar Fire"
    Herbie Hancock - "Headhunters"
Traffic - "Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory"
    Greenslade - "S/T"
Led Zeppelin - "Houses of the Holy"
    Cannonball Adderley - "Inside Straight"
Larry Norman - "So Long Ago The Garden"

    ...too many to count!

Very tough choice, honourable mentions to Aladdin Sane, Ooh La La, Berlin and Billion Dollar Babies [sorry, but DSOTM isn't even my favourite Floyd album, let alone my favourite of 73]. Quadrophenia wins this hands down for me. Not only is it my favourite of 73, but it might well be my favourite album of all. It caught me at exactly the right age, and has stayed with me ever since.

Not just top picks of 1973, but up there for of ever.

Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
Iggy & The Stooges - Raw Power
New York Dolls - The New York Dolls

I'm gonna get a complex from having to write in my favourites.

Berlin, but also wanted to vote for John Cale's Paris 1919 and Stones' Goat's Head Soup.

Had a listen to Red Rose Speedway yesterday...what a mediocre album. Not a single keeper except "My Love"...bland and nonsensical at the same time. Wonder what happened there. Such a contrast to Band on the Run.
