At the time, it would have been the Monkees TV compilation from Laurie House.

I had just discovered the series in syndication, and hated how my friends with older sisters were able to get hand-me-downs, but I couldn't (being the oldest myself).

Obviously, something the the Ramones album would resonate more for an adult, but I still have a place in my heart for that TV compilation.

1976 was a great year for singles but not so great for albums. Some good ones though - Hotel California,Elton...

But my vote goes to Station To Station - not as great as Low/Heroes but still better than most from 1976.

I've got 20 or 30 of the original lps listed here. I'd say '76 was a strong year. In my current cd rotation I also have these which I didn't see mentioned:
Al Stewart - Year of the Cat
    Guy Clark - Texas Cookin'
    Shawn Philips - Spaced

I recently picked up "Futuristic Dragon" cheaply and was surprised how fun it was. Not a fan of "Dreamy Lady" but the rest is quite good.

Man that's tough, some good selections. I wanted to make it hard for myself by only choosing one so I went with Station To Station, what a great album. One of my all time favorites. Rush is one of my favorite bands but I still prefer Station to Station. I was also happy to see The Modern Lovers on there too, one of the most underrated great rock and roll albums of the 70's. I'm a fan, and being from Boston myself I can relate to some of those songs.

    Station to Station for me.

I had the eight track of the album when it was released and at that time I was working by the airport in Toronto.
Back then I was still living at my parents home in Hockley Valley.
My workplace was off of Airport Road and it was a straight drive for about 30 miles to home.
I had a '73 Mustang with an eight track in it and would wait till I hit Airport Rd. and # 7 Hwy.
to play of Station to Station.
I'd slam it in to the deck and by the time I hit the cutoff for our house, Station to Station (the song) was coming to an end.
Today, with the amount of lights and developments going on up Airport Road I could probably hear the entire album.

Some good choices but in what was a good year for reggae I'd say best albums that year were Garvey's Ghost - Burning Spear (one of my dub album faves) and Mighty Diamonds Right Time. Also a mention for Bunny Wailer's Blackheart Man ( though not as good as Raserman Vibration)

Both Led Zeppelin's Presence album and the soundtrack to The Song Remains The Same motion picture are missing from this list.

Those are my favorites from this year!
