I was out railfanning wacthing the trains with my uncle today. We stopped in a small town in Massachusetts for some lunch and I noticed a little hole in the wall bookstore.

I step inside and it's TOWERS and towers of books upon books upon books all unorganized and confusing.

I head for the back and find a used cd section. There was a counter there and this:http://www.jpgr.co.uk/bep14.html

    was sitting on it.

    It's the vinyl EP collection.

I was stunned. Last thing I expected to see in this place, haha. I always knew about the LP collection they did, but never this EP set, so I was double surprised.

Everything is in mint condition except that the case has some wear and tear.

I brought it out to check out and because it had no price and the woman behind the counter couldn't contact the seller, she asked me what I'd pay for it.

Keep in mind she was about 90 years old and hard of hearing, so I could've easily said ten dollars and walked out.

I suggested fifty dollars and SHE was worried that was way too much for me to pay and kept trying to get my info for when I'd be back in town and she could refund me :)

So, in a nutshell, got a near-mint 1981 UK Beatles EP Collection set for fifty bucks.

Did I do good or not?

Well, one in mint condition is on ebay for over $ 600.

Were you planning to keep it or... make a profit?

My dad has this EP collection, but like the rest of his collectables, he'll never sell them.

50 bucks is about right for a good deal altho they often go for plenty more.... Cool item to have altho mine has never even seen a stylus so I can't really comment on sound. There is a singles box to keep your eye out for too :)

I sold my entire Beatles, Queen and Dylan collections several years ago as I was moving and figured I didn't want to become too attached. This I plan on keeping.

Wow. It's not worth that price. I know I'm stating the obvious

  7. The complete set? Sure you did good IMHO! I sold a few of these separate titles a couple of years ago, in a shop - the '81 version - and they brought me some cash.

...Oh and I commend your honesty!

You are a man of integrity. While $10 would have been entirely inappropriate....I'd have offered $11.

I believe it was Chester, MA.

I'm currently staying with my uncle in Dartmouth, near New Bedford and Fall River and Providence.

Our ride today took us all the way out to Lenox/Tanglewood, Westfield, Palmer and Chatham, among other places.

    Congrats, that's a great find.
In a similar strike of luck, I recently found a NM copy of the Help! album with the Shell logo for just 15 Euros. Sometimes you need to be at the right place at the right time!

I was actually playing a few discs from my EP box last night. Definitely play it - don't just leave it on a shelf.

That is a very nice find. I got a bit confused. I saw 1981 and thought vinyl. I remember the day this set was released in 1992. I was in a little record shop in New Hope Pa. and in addition to this box , I was offered a set of Beatles trading cards that had just come out.

    I don't know if it's '81 or '92. Either way, killer score, eh? :)

  23. It IS vinyl...

...Isn't it?!? I re-read the OP's link, and now am all confused...

I looked at the link the OP references and thought it was the CD ep box.

It's the set on the top when you follow the link.

    It's the vinyl set.
