So Oscar choices are all due to "modern mentality." And people say MY generation is the sensitive/offended one.

It has to be when the cut-off point is. He was genuine Hollywood Royalty - son of Rosemary Clooney & Oscar winner José Ferrer and cousin of George Clooney.

I hate to see Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty being trashed on social media. It's a genuine mistake. Faye was excited and having a good time and probably didn't even realize it until the La La Land crew were coming up.

It's a shame because I was looking forward to their reunion and now it will be forever remembered for this.

Trashing people is the apparent purpose of social media, a point made humorously clear on the "Mean Tweets" segment.

It was a really unsettling moment. I really wanted Moonlight to win but not that way. So weird.
On a positive note, Jimmy Kimmel was fantastic tonight.

You're right. It was already happening in the '70s with The Godfather and Bob Fosse.

Haha yeah, there are so many more terrible things happening in the world than gaffes at the oscars.

Don't most of the winner's keep their envelope too? How did the envelope get back in the pile that should have had only one left?

I just checked, and he's listed on this page.

...along with some other names I didn't see listed:

    Alan Rickman – Actors Branch
    Robert Vaughn – Actors Branch
    Abe Vigoda – Actors Branch
    Vilmos Zsigmond – Cinematographers Branch
    Robert Stigwood – Producers Branch
    Douglas Slocombe – Cinematographers Branch

I'm sure there are two sets, a primary and a backup. And Warren got given the top of the "backup" pile.

Surely Rickman was on last years one?

    This from the LA Times
Turns out that for each category, there are two cards waiting in the wings, one on each side, as explained in a 2016 Los Angeles Times story by Valli Herman:

"In an undisclosed location, the partners tabulate votes and stuff two sets of winning envelopes, partly as another security measure and also to aid the show's flow. Stationed with their signature briefcases on opposite sides of the stage, either [PricewaterhouseCoopers partners, Brian] Cullinan or [Martha] Ruiz can dispense envelopes to presenters. At the end of the evening, each accountant will have given out about half of the envelopes.

"And the third set? 'There is no third "set" sitting somewhere that has the winning cards in the winning envelopes,' Cullinan said. However, the remaining, unstuffed envelopes and nominee cards are shipped to a second secret location, just in case some disaster prevents access to the completed sets. After the ceremony, unused cards and envelopes are destroyed by an industrial document-destruction company."

To keep this from happening again, I think the Academy should hire a reputable accounting firm to hand out the envelopes.... Ooooops

...because that was a much better film than the poor PC home movie that was Moonlight, and they deserved to be on stage.

I see we have two 2017 Oscars threads, this was posted elsewhere 60 days ago, it seems I got an almost perfect prediction score.

btw, loved Denzel's face while Casey Affleck was calling his work an inspiration for him

..maybe he thought he should have won

I found the whole show rather boring and almost switched off the TV right after La La Land was announced, as I'm not interested in winner speeches, and it was 6AM here.

But then I thought Jimmy Kimmel would maybe make some funny closing remarks, and I continued watching. I'm glad I didn't miss the only spontaneous moment of the show, although at first, I thought it was kind of an ill-judged prank.

I hope Jimmy Kimmel breaks his promise and hosts the Oscars again next year. A job well done from the hilarious beginning to the bloody end.

The producers of LA LA LAND knew they were in trouble halfway through their Oscars acceptance speech, when the stage crew starting flashing them this sign...
