I don't know...I think Bon Jovi's 1989 concept album 'Albert Einstein vs. the Rock & Roll Cowboy' is one of the great moments in human history!

Every year people complain about non-rock acts being nominated and inducted and every year those people need to be reminded that this "trend" started the very first year that this whole thing started. The King of Soul was inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame the very first year. Get over yourself.

The nominees are awesome this time around.

My yearly gripe list. Hopefully can strike two from it.......................

    X (John Doe/Exene/Billy Zoom/DJ)
    Television
    Yoko Ono
    Captain Beefheart
    Love/Arthur Lee
    The Jam/Paul Weller
    The MC5
    The Zombies
    The Turtles
    The Flamin' Groovies
    X Ray Spex

I've been doing this consistent gripe list for 10 years...........only The Small Faces have ever been selected from it.

Link Wray from the nominee list too.

Have to chuckle when I see people rage against the nominees and then complain Dan Fogelberg and Celine Dion have never been nominated.

    My thoughts:
Bon Jovi- This is the first time they have been nominated? - I feel like the folks below deserve it more than them.
Kate Bush- doesn't have the US fanbase but there are barely any women from the 70's on in the Hall so it would be nice if she were
The Cars- should have been in 15+ years ago
Depeche Mode- yes they should be in
Dire Straits- yeah they should've been in already
    Eurythmics- should be in already
    J. Geils Band- No
Judas Priest- Totally deserve to get in. I hope they do.
LL Cool J- Probably will get in this year
    MC5- No
    The Meters- No
    Moody Blues- eh
Radiohead- yes they will get in this year
Rage Against the Machine- yes they should be in maybe not first year
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan- should have been a in a while ago over some 50's/60's one hit wonders
Nina Simone- this is interesting as this is more jazz...a lot of jazz artists aren't in- Herb Alpert, Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Ella, etc so I don't know ...this is going down a different territory
    Sister Rosetta Tharpe- Who?
    Link Wray- Who?
    The Zombies- No

You won't find a bigger Kate Bush fan on this forum than me - but no way in hell is Kate getting in. If Eurythmics gets in, I wonder if Annie will do a repeat of this speech where she won "Best Female Artist" over Kate:

By the way, Kate does fly, she just doesn't enjoy it due to inner ear issues. My wife and I met her plane (the Concorde) when she came to New York to promote Hounds of Love.

Link Wray would be my vote if I could only pick one. I'd pick Kate Bush altho she isnt rock and roll, but, she's a pop music pioneer, maybe that counts.

Radiohead is probably a shoe-in because nerd critics love them.

Actually, Cool J was pretty influential, particularly with his Radio album. As Rap artists go, he has as much right to be there as anyone else. Having said that though, I do agree that there are a lot of other acts that deserve to be inducted first. My general take though is that, by trying to be so broad and so diverse in their appeal, the R&R Hall ends up not really satisfying anybody.

Particularly the notion that CSNY and Stephen Stills solo are crucial inductees when they've all already gotten in twice. Some people can't see past their own noses.

Because they're not all aging white guys strumming guitars??
On attitude alone, "Mississippi Goddam" is WAY more rock n' roll than "Nights In White Satin" or "Bad Medicine."

that's a judgmental attack on somebody else's definition of a vague term.

I doubt everyone here is going to have the same definition of rock and roll.

    Indeed!

And anyone doubting Sister Rosetta Tharpe's Rock'n'Roll cred needs to watch this video, especially when she gets cooking a minute and a half in:

    Apologies for the "judgmental attack."
I'll go back to reading how the HOF sucks, LL Cool J doesn't deserve to be nominated, Radiohead only appeals to nerd critics, and other non-judgmental "facts."

Looks like Dave Grohl is on the nominating committee this year. MC5 has a chance!

There is no way this band should not be in the ROCK hall of fame, unless sales is very, very high on the list of criteria.
