It was 25 years ago today that the world said goodbye to a beloved Boston bar. After 11 seasons and 275 episodes, Cheers came to an end in May of 1993.

Really good finale, to one of the best 3-4 comedic sitcoms ever.

I loved how the final scene was the gang just sitting around at the bar and shooting the breeze. Very fitting end.

Hard to believe it has been 25 years.

  13. The theme song was the signal that it was time to go to bed for school the next day.

My signal was the LA Law theme, I could stay up and watch Night Court when it followed Cheers, then as I got older it was Seinfeld that I watched.

Frasier was the best chracter to do a spin off.

You can't take Norm and Cliff out of Cheers

Carla wasn't a strong enough character

Woody would have been ok but Woody Harrelson was clearly gonna do movies

The CBS DVD does a really bad edit of the finale, by only using the end credits for the part 3 version. That's what I've read.

Frasier is a funny show from what I’ve seen so far.

Frasier was definitely the break out character of the series. I am curious at what point in writing the last season was it known that the Frasier series was picked up and what writing decisions that last season were made due to the impending series.

Yea, I remember it well. I loved having those 'friends' in the house every week. Great way to end things.
I have the 'thank you' screen at work on my file cabinet. I don't think a lot of people have a clue

    That's easy. None.

They were going for a rich paralyzed mogul controlling his empire from his bed. Paramount insisted they do Frasier. The creators of Frasier eventually relented but took decisions to ensure it wasn't going to be tied to the Cheers show too much, such as moving Frasier to first Colorado but then decided to go to Seattle, as far as possible from Boston. Otherwise, they assumed the studio would insist in having Cheers characters drop by all the time, plus doing crossover shows with the rest of the New England shows they had (like Wings). This all happened after Cheers was over. So none of the writing or decisions made for the last season had anything to do with the spin-off.

So Ted Danson decided DURING the 11th season to leave the show? Interesting

I can't imagine Cheers continuing without Sam Malone

Woody like would have been on his way out to. If I recall his role really was reduced for season 11 until the later part of the season (I think he was shooting Natural Born Killers)
