    What an incredible year.

    Memories? Favourites? Reflections?

There was of course, 1987 by Whitesnake.

Springsteen's "Tunnel of Love" made a huge impression on me. It was so depressive and intimate. And Harrison's "Cloud Nine". "Sign o' the Times" of course, it was so varied and playful. I played Bowie's "Never Let Me Down" a lot but I don't consider it a great album.

you mean the year the term 'new jack swing' was coined?

fig. 1: club nouveau, 'lean on me' (from life, love, and pain, 1987). the magic comes in at about 0'28".
really, it all started in 1986 with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis producing Janet's control, but the style was named in and picked up steam throughout 1987 (with some major help from the above), and by 1988, it was ubiquitous.

I seriously think the whole genre has long been overdue for a critical reappraisal, and I can't think of a better time than the thirtieth anniversary.

I would not name 1987 an incredible year at all...I was there, there is not one lp from 1987 that I listen to very often...If you say 1987, i say directly Whitesnake and hysteria from def leppard as best remembering ...If I could only go to the moon with 1000 lps, the only two records that I would consider take with me would be the first lp from guns and roses and the cult's electric...

One of the last 'good' years in pop for me. Packed with great albums. I was 24 then.

    Some of the ones I bought and played;

Tango In The Night - Fleetwood Mac
    Bad Animals - Heart
Red Hot Rhythm & Blues - Diana Ross
Heaven On Earth - Belinda Carlisle
    Bridge Of Spies - T'Pau
Eyes That See In The Dark - Kenny Rogers
    Cloud 9 - George Harrison
    Actually - Pet Shop Boys
    Raindancing - Alison Moyet
    Wow! - Bananarama
    E.S.P. - Bee Gees
    Time And Tide - Basia
    Savage - Eurythmics
    Notorious - Duran Duran

But the real big guns have already been mentioned.. Bad. Whitney. Faith. Kick. The Joshua Tree. Hysteria

Even though released on 1986, this album remained very relevant and popular in the charts 1987.

    On reflection that is.
1987 didn't really do it for me.
Guns n. Roses that's about it.

The Terence Trent D'Arby album was good, but there was an awful acapella thing on it that lasted about a fortnight. Totally ruined the album for me.
