Noddy Holder.....AAAAAAAAWWWWLLLLRRRRRRIGHT (this must be a UK poll right? Brian Connelly as well)

Personally, Glenn Hughes is a better singer than Coverdale. I think technically, Dio is better than Gillan..but I'm happy with the poll, as I prefer Gillan to Dio, but I know he has a LOT of respect for RJD :)

(ok didn't see the CLASSIC ROCK)

Let's be honest. This is a ROCK poll, it ain't no beauty parade. How many female Rock singers can compete with the very best in the business?

  11. About six feet below the Earth's surface as of the last update.

Freddy Mercury is a good singer, but the greatest rock'n'roll singer of all time? Really? Better than Elvis, or Little Richard, or Roger Daltrey, or Mick Jagger, or Robert Plant, or John Lennon, or whoever else? Was this a poll or another BS editors' list?

''I do like a few Queen tunes, but it certainly isn't because of his vocals''

    1. Remove Mercury from no 1
    2. Shift 3 and 2 up one place
    3. Take 13 up to 3

    Job done.

The fact they spelled Roger's last name wrong makes this "definitive" list lose serious credibility.

Freddie Mercury was hands down the greatest FRONTMAN (okay, not 'hands down' but 'arguably' at least), but his singing is just 'good', not 'great', IMHO.

I'd argue Mick Jagger. He invented it and he defined it. AND he can play a mean blues harp.

But I've just never been a big Queen fan, so go figure.

  21. Certainly better than any you mentioned.

Hell yeah, Jagger is up there. But I think they were talking about vocal ability. I would personally put him at #2 behind Mercury (and this is having seen Merc. on film only--Ive seen Jagger live several times). Call it a toss up--today its Mercury, tomorrow it'll be Jagger :) Brian was a better harp player, but Jagger has gotten much better over the years.

I'm not talking in terms of technical ability. I'm talking about the sound and feel of their voice as it relates to what I consider the essential rock'n'roll ethos—exciting, immediate, impassioned, dangerous, and/or sexy (some combination thereof). No way Mercury wins on those counts, as far as I'm concerned.

Now, apparently this list was about technical ability and "rock". I don't really give a hoot about technical ability beyond a point (I'd never nominate Keith Richards for greatest rock singer), and I personally don't like "rock" very much, so this is probably not the list for me.

Robin Zander blows away the majority of people on that list. He should definitely be in the top 5.

Barry Hay (Golden Earring) should be on it. Great vocalist. This band has been totally underrated and overlooked and has been for 30 plus years now.
