Evidently some people actually have it. How does "Dear Prudence" sound? Good remix or overcooked digital mess?
Poster says it was remixed from the original analog tapes. Was I wrong to think remixes are done from the digital transfers done of the entire tape vault? Does that mean those buying the vinyl are getting a pure analog release?
Ok, well as I said "I didn't know that" ha. Just from the fervor for the 27 minute Helter Skelter on this forum and others it was such that it seemed like it must be some lost take of the faster version for which we don't have any official outtakes, whereas the slow blues version is already available on Anthology.
The remixes are definitely digital, whether on CD or vinyl. Apple and Giles Martin would never put the original tapes, as well preserved as they are, through an analog mixing process. Too many things could go wrong, and the tapes only have to go through the machines once before going back into the vault with digital mixing.
Yes, that's what I've always thought. They'd never turn the original tapes into "work tapes". So, that's why I posed the question. The poster seems legit, but that seems like a such a big claim to get so wrong.
Been listening to the Back In The USSR variants/teasers on iTunes. They really sound wonderful. So excited to hear that vinyl box!
I suspect it's simply a different version. They found the tapes at George's. Maybe it's just a tape generation where he hadn't overdubbed the organ yet?
Maybe they wanted to distract from the fact that the remixes are completely digital. I don't really care too much, considering the remix sounds great, but some might.
The Who Sell Out was actually released in 1967. But it would be very Who-like to release a 50th anniversary edition a year late!
Maybe, but if you're looking for a distraction away from digital, claiming analog is the exact wrong way to do that.
To celebrate the 50th in my own way I made a white album cover generator: The BEATLES White Album Cover Generator Basically, enter your own serial number, pick the title style you like, choose the background color and save the image! Useful for iTunes and that sort of thing. Here's one I made myself: I threw this together pretty quick, so feel free to PM me if there are any bugs. Enjoy!
Well based on the new mix of the Esher "Weeps" it seems that the demos were definitely recorded on 4 track, as there are at least 3 separate tracks (main in the center, guitar overdub to the right and vocal overdub to the left) so it's most likely that the 4th track had the organ overdub on it. Yes he did, it's the main instrument on the Circles demo.
I would say no.....the Anthology take runs 3:27 and the WA 50th version (take 2) runs 3:02....Plus the beginning is different as I think a harmonium is added
Another question I was asked was about was the Esher demos. I compared the WA 50th to the Vigotone Kinfauns to Chaos bootleg. There is a quite a difference sound wise. The 50th versions are clearer and brighter as many on the Kinfauns boot have a slightly muffled sound
The version on Anthology 3 repeated the last guitar line several times into a fade out. This was done during the Anthology mixing, not during the original recording session. So if they present the song without the repeated guitar line, it should be approximately 3:02 in length. I never cared for the repeated guitar line. I would rather hear the song as it was recorded and have a cold ending.
