This is also a great chart. Hardly any of these songs charted in the US. If we know of them, it's because many of them received airplay on MTV.

As usual I haven't even heard most of these songs, although I've heard of most of the artists and might have some material by a few. The best one I know, which I discovered only a few years ago, is:

    26 I’VE BEEN IN LOVE BEFORE –•– Cutting Crew – 7 (26)

    Followed by:

    19 IT’S A SIN –•– Pet Shop Boys – 7 (19)
    27 HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH –•– Belinda Carlisle – 4 (27)

And on a whim I just decided to listen to:

    3 CARRIE –•– Europe – 12 (3)

because I like Final Countdown, and this one is decent too.

I like/own 25 of these (and most of the accompanying albums). It's a pretty good chart for me!

There are a couple of songs that I either don't remember or have never heard; unsurprising really, as they probably failed to chart in Australia and passed me by. I will have to look them up. Meanwhile, I had no idea that 'Carrie' was such a big hit...

I guess there must have been 2 different 45 versions of "Lost In Emotion". The one in the pic that Bobby posted has a listed running time of 3:59, but this one has a listed time of 4:34.

Of course, another possibility is that the 3:59 is incorrect, and it may actually run 4:34. I've never seen a 3:59 version anywhere on CD to date, but I do have at least 2 CD's that have the 4:34 version. I think the album version runs about 5 minutes.

An excellent chart from one of my favorite years. Of the Top 40, the only one I don't have on my iPod (yet) is #29. The Prince and Madonna songs would peak at #2 while Lisa Lisa and Michael Jackson would trade positions the following week.
Songs 11 and 14 originally recorded by Tommy James and The Shondells would both go to #1, back-to-back. It should also be noted that Billboard classified the Live Version of Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" as the one that charted, even though it's not specified as such here. The Whitney Houston song was part of her record breaking 7 consecutive #1 songs from 1985-1988. The Belinda Carlisle song is probably my favorite of all the ones listed here, and it's also her only #1 in the US, as either a member of the Go-Go's or solo. It was around this time in 1987 that Cassette Singles were starting to take off in the US, and "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" was one of the first I bought, along with the Bill Medley/Jennifer Warnes song, which was #1 the week before Belinda. Songs 49. 88 and 93 are underrated gems IMO that unfortunately didn't see high chart positions.

    Overall, 10 #1 songs listed here: Songs 1, 4, 6, 11, 14, 15, 25, 27, 35 and 39.

I had that song on an obscure V/A compilation when I was a kid... probably haven't heard it in over 20 years! It's pretty cheesy and has early 90's written all over it, but it's still kinda fun!

Of course, at the time I was too young to know who Yes were.... ;)

By the way, the compilation it was on was this one:
    Various - Power Trax
A very strange and eclectic mix of artists...

Thought I’d stick in a ‘new’ UK chart. This is from week ending 21st November 1981.

It's just so nice to see a chart and know who 99% of the artists are, even if you don't like them.
I have been following the UK album chart threat for months and I hardly recognise even the top 10...

The ONLY time I ever check a chart these days is just after Record Store Day. I like to see how the releases have placed. The rest of the year they can bugger right off. It's all a fix anyway. Always has been. How else can you justify 'Crazy Frog' or Brotherhood Of Man......? (Oh, and I'll look this weekend too to see how the Eurovision singles have done).

I just spent 2 1/2 weeks (broken up by weekend trips home to LA) in Calgary, Alberta for my new job and I made sure to listen to a lot of Canadian music while I was up there. The Chilliwack song made the playlist! I also listened to a lot of Blue Rodeo, Sloan, Payola$, Tom Cochrane/Red Rider, Eight Seconds, etc.

Oh, and k.d. lang, too. I got a kick out of actually being in Alberta and hearing her sing "She was a big-boned gal from southern Alberta..." - I'm nerdy like that.

I can't believe this album has never been remastered. I know the original sounds fine, but seems like a great candidate for a deluxe edition. Roll With It would be, too.

Here’s a thing of, well, not beauty, but definitely of interest. A good 80s chart!

I actually don’t have much to say about the 80s. Always seemed such a disappointment after the 70s. But a lot of these I really dug - and even own.

At no 3 - Belle Stars. Terrific record and marvellous video.

    Marillion’s ‘He Knows You Know'

‘Africa'. Hell, who doesn’t own ‘Africa’ ?

    Mac’s ‘Oh Diane’

The Fun Boy Three’s - ‘Tunnel Of Love’

    Def Leppard ‘Photograph'

Wah! - ‘Story Of The Blues’

One of U2’s finest - ‘New Year’s Day’

    Lizzy’s ‘Cold Sweat’

….and the magnificent Icehouse single ‘Het Little Girl’. Another moving promo vid.

There's a decent CD for the car to be made of of this lot
