Ahhh nostalgia. Hard to believe Nickelodeon had such great shows at a time

Even though kids watched them, they were more for teenagers, well at least some

Some of the terrific shows I loved were Doug, Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy ANgry Beavers, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Double Dare, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Pete and Pete, Secret of ALex Mac, Hey Arnold, Hey Dude!, Salute Your Shorts, GUTS!

I mean the Nickelodeon was the place to be for kids in the 90's

Now you look at what they air and it's just sad. Sure it doesn't relate to me now, that I have grown up but I have gone back and watch the shows i listed above and still enjoy them. Sure some might have to do with nostalgia but the shows were actually entertaining and frankly some pushed the boundaries for sure being on a kid channel

Sucks to see what happened to their shows

I vaguely remember that show. Set looks familiar but I don't recall seeing it very often

I think Are you Afraid of teh Dark was the best thing NICK ever aired

Some of those episodes were legit scary back in the day

I remember Fifteen, it was a Canadian soap opera for kids; it had Ryan Reynolds in it!

89-95 were my Nickelodeon years. Here’s a crazy nostalgia trip:

I was in my early 20s at the dawn of the '90s, so I was no longer part of Nickelodeon's target demographic. Therefore I have never seen most of the shows mentioned in this thread so far.

However, I will never forget stumbling upon Ren & Stimpy while channel surfing one hungover Sunday morning back then ... it was the "Fire Dogs" episode.

I honestly had no clue what the hell I was looking at! I thought at first that it was a rerun of some long-lost old cartoon I'd never seen before (due to its weird retro/'50s art style) but by the time the fat lady threw her giant baby and her horse ("No sir, I don't like it!") out of the burning building and then she flattened R&S with her enormous buttocks when SHE jumped, I was like "I have no idea what this is, but it's funny as hell." :D

I was hooked and tuned in every Sunday morning after that!

Was in college during this time but we watched a lot of these shows. You know those Yule Log shows they run during Christmas? Nick had one a year or two ago and we left it on. Random characters from the 90's would show up including Arnold, Doug Funnie, Cat/Dog, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy. We let it play for hours.

Aah! Real Monsters and Rocko's Modern Life were great series too. Cartoons in that brief era underwent an amazing resurgence in the quality of both art and writing, with much of it skewed toward surreal/psychedelia and a major dose of mature humor that only adults would likely understand. I would honestly say that Warner Bros. of the 40s/50s and Nickelodeon (and Cartoon Network too) of the early-mid 90s were equally amazing periods of animation. Live action stuff like Pete and Pete was also well-written and incredibly well acted, for what it was anyways. Just absolutely great stuff.

I just realized that GUTS was just like another show. And it was called American Gladiators.

OMG Rocko was great. Kind of reminded me of Courage the Cowardly Dog.

My years began and ended with "You Can't Do That On Television". Once the 90s hit, I was into other things. I still appreciated the channel a lot. They seemed to capture kids T.V. in ways most others didn't.

Fifteen was like a more soap opera 90210 season 1. Pure melodrama and just awesome in a kitschy way.

Pete and Pete is Twin Peaks for the under 12 set.

Ah yes.. Fifteen (or as it was called in Canada, "Hillside") was so, so terrible. Bad acting, bad writing.
