Any one have this Police CD and notice a loud click on the first track (Don't stand...) at 21 seconds? I don't remember this if it is legit!

    Thanks!

That's on the master. It's Andy's guitar. You could remove the click, but that's changing history. :) The vinyl, AM+ issue and the remaster, and the box set, all have it.

Interesting. I always figured it was some sort of glitch in the tape or in the mixing/mastering/etc. rather than a sound that was actually recorded. It's unfortunate because it breaks the mood (Copeland's soft cadence on the hi-hat or cymbals over that continuing drone). Very easy to remove, though, if you want to burn yourself a tweaked copy.

Did this remaster just come out??

Is it any good? Is the whole catalog remastered?.............I'll have to pick this one up.....

It's been out for awhile, first on the box set in 1993, then on single CD's in 1995 or so.

Supposedly, they're thinking of reissuing the albums again, with bonus audio interviews (all three members recorded lengthy group interviews a few years ago with this in mind).

To my knowledge, no concrete plans have been made, so if they do actually go through with it, it may be awhile longer.

Interesting. On my original CD it is not present! Listening closely, it sounds as if it were edited out - I hear a very fast break where it occurs. It is definately not edited out on the remaster.

I'm wondering what more could they do soundwise to upgrade the Police catalog. I've always thought the sound on the box set was quite good. I'm hoping that they'll get around to remastering Sting's solo stuff particularly "Dream Of The Blue Turtles".
Even though it's an all digital recording the standard A&M CD sounds edgy and harsh. The MoFI CD sounds better but there's still room for improvement.

I'm assuming that you also have the 'Nothing Like The Sun' MoFi release as well. I have both and like NBTS best. That one was a DDD recording to begin with but I believe that the MoFi sounds much warmer.

I really thought that "Dram of the Blue Turtles" was all analog. The original LP was much better than the CD, so much so that I gave away my CD some years ago (one of the first CDs I ever got, along with Billy Joel's "Nylon Curtain").
All of his albums after that are digital, and they mostly sound pretty good to boot.

Dug this out just to hear the "click", ended up listening to the whole thing. What a great friggin' album! - thanx Mattb!

Curiously, are you and MagicAlex talking about the UD1 version or the UD2 version?

The UD1 version of "Dream Of The Blue Turtles" is the one I have Dave.

    Jeff,

Wow! That kind of surprises me! Is the Mofi not a flat transfer, as I know that Synconicity is unbeatable, so far?

    Dave,

Since I've never seen or heard the UD2 version of DOTBT I really don't know. Most of the UD1 pressings are flat transfers from the original source tape.

I have never liked the sound of the remastered Police catalog. Maybe it was just the equipment or the mixing, but most all it sounds brittle and thin. Great music, just not in the "audiophile" league.

I remember awhile back Steve mentioning how "Synchronicity" needs a bit of midrange magic. There's an old thread that discusses it briefly. Basically, UDI MFSL CD is the best on CD, but Tom Port suggested a vinyl pressing (forgot which one) that may have that missing "midrange magic."

I think Tom recommended the new Universal reissue on vinyl. Said it was the first time he's ever been able to truly enjoy the album.
