eBay should take this seriously, since this sort of behavior reduces buyer trust in their marketplace, and eventually lowers the values of all items and fees as bidders search out more reliable transactions on half.com or amazon.com. Your transaction is only a drop in the bucket, of course, but I imagine this sort of thing goes on in every category.

I would have been a lot more mad if I bid six cents more and had "won" the item...

Well I reported this seller so we shall see I was surprised how easy it is to file a complaint on ebay. They do have a complaint category already made up for pulling items early for fee avoidance.
I was thinking about contacting the seller directly, but the prospect of revealing my e-mail to someone who could then put it on every ***** enlargement mailing list gave me pause....

Well it's a good thing you don't require any PE emails. :D

You go get them man! This just nonsense on Ebays part allowing this sort of garbage. Take away the sellers option of cancelling after the last 24 hours. Sheesh!

I wrote the seller yesterday afternoon asking why he stopped the auction, and I have yet to get a response. What a surprise.

Kinda grows on ya, doesn't it?

Sheeee...another auction ended seconds before it ran out. Oh yeah, it can't be anything but fee avoidance. If anything it's reserve fee avoidance, the seller ending the auction because the price didn't go high enough and didn't have a reserve price set.

"Dear Ebay, Rudy tried to bid on this during the last three seconds and found out the auction was cancelled."

Tempting for me to file a complaint. ;) And in fact, I just did...Ebay has no way of knowing if I went to place a bid, and couldn't, because the auction was no longer available. They don't even ask! They just request the item number. Thing is, it occured to me that all the seller has to say is that he/she sold it locally and it was no longer available. (Hard to argue, though, with the auction ending a scant 9 seconds early!) We gotta watch this guy. If it happens again, we should all report him again.

Too bad nobody got the other bidder IDs on this one. Hopefully they had the sense to complain.

A lot of the overpriced sellers will find their items don't move on half.com or Amazon since they price themselves way outside the market. I encounter Tijuana Brass CDs that have a "hopeful" high price on them. Although I'll admit that when someone uses my affiliate link and buys Whipped Cream for $149.95 from an Amazon Marketplace seller, I have no problem accepting the commission for it. :D (About $3.75 in this case. Gotta love it!)

The list is still there - just click on the "0 bids" link next to History.
Hope this guy gets nailed - but I doubt anything will happen.

    Kayaker,

We all understand the frustration these sellers are inflicting upon the community. You have every right to go after them and I do encourage this, but I do reside with HZ on this "name calling" issue. Please do keep us informed of the situation if you like as we are interested in the outcome. Thanks.

This happened a couple of weeks ago, I saw a BC-13 box and was contemplating bidding on it. A day or two later, I decided to bid on it, and you guessed it, auction has ended for item. The seller claimed the item was either no longer available or damaged. Very frustrating!

Unfortunately....it will do no good to file with eBay....they'll send him an automated e-mail and he'll reply that he had legit reasons for ending the auction early....two months will go by, nothing will happen....he'll keep at it...until he gets bored with getting zero action on his auctions, at which point he will change of his own volition or just disappear...

The way it usually goes...millions of buyers and sellers...almost impossible to really regulate....caveat emptor applies in spades...

    Reality.

    Best,

    Ben

I've seen people end auctions early, be it in the final seconds or a couple of days before it was set to close. I've often asked what happened to the auction, and when I've gotten replies back, I've heard all sorts of stories. Some of the replies I've gotten include:

    * "Someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I was pretty sure that I wouldn't get that much through the auction."

    * "After I started the auction, I couldn't find the disc. The jewel case was empty."

    * "I just moved yesterday, and now I can't find the disc."

    * "I played the disc after starting the auction and found that it skips."

Perhaps these types of sellers should become politician's? :D

And here's some of the excuses for withdrawing a bid that these sellers deserve to hear:

"Someone made me an offer that I couldn't refuse...and I bought it elsewhere."
"I just moved yesterday, and I found out that I already have it."
"I borrowed and played the CD, and I don't like it."

Of course, maybe sellers have heard these excuses...but it seems like I see more auctions ending early than bids being retracted.
