Rudolf, if the edit could be done seamlessly (ideally, by re-editing the missing verse back into the master tape before doing the transfer), then I'm fine with that. However, if this will cause dropouts, and if the single master is of a high enough quality (ie - if it was a 1:1 dub off of the mixdown master), then I have no issue with the single master being used.

Might just have to pick this remaster, based on the above reviews. I'll be interested to hear Kenny's opinion, too.

Although an analogue to analogue dub does suffer from generational loss. On Astley's remasters the edits sound a bit "abrupt" but not too bad.

Would this edit have been removed, and placed back at the end of the tape after Astley's transfer, or would they have left the master reel assembled?

I'm wondering if someone were able to do the edit again if they might be able to get a tighter fit to prevent that portion from sounding so abrupt. If not, I guess it comes down to how much of a generational loss there has been for the single master.

My copy is in the mail because my local record store didn't get any in. :(

I'll post a review once I get my hands on it.

How does the deluxe edition compare to the mid-80s Atlantic CD?

Here's the title track waveform taken from the Facebook page (and thanks moz for sharing):

Like I said earlier that looks VERY good in terms of dynamics. Hopefully the sound quality matches then this deluxe edition will be a real winner.

This surely looks great, I'm hoping to get my copy today. It looks more dynamic than VV Deluxe to my eyes. I wonder if it's Universal or Erik Broheden at Masters of Audio who have decided this!

Does anyone know how much, or if, they have reduced the dynamics?

Someone had mentioned that parts of the long version of "On and On and On" sounded a bit muffled, as if the extra verse had possibly been dropped in from the mono version.

I'm still waiting on my copy to be delivered from the UK, so can anyone who actually has a copy comment on this?

For reference, here's the waveform for the track "Super Trouper" from the Atlantic CD (16023-2):

Good comparison - the new one still looks pretty good although there is some very slight compression.

My Deluxe Edition of SUPER TROUPER shipped from the UK on Saturday, so I would expect it'll take a while longer to get here. I ordered it more for the DVD than the CD since I have the Atlantic disc referenced above.

My copy still hasn't arrived but it's highly unlikely because the tonality would be completely different. The mono version is quite heavily compressed compared with the stereo version that was issued.

I'm still doing a complete analysis, but the extended version does sound slightly harsher and has more tape hiss than the regular version found on the Deluxe edition.

I listened quickly yesterday. My first impression is that they have done it really good this time. It sounds clearer and quiter. It fells like the music fills the room more, like there is "more" music. I always thought that the 1983 Polydor (like most other early eighties Abba-cd:s) sounds a bit digital, especially in the high frequencis. I don't know if the lp sounds like that or if it's the first generation of AD-converters that wasn't good. Now it sounds more smooth.
I also think that the bass is richer. I haven't noticed less dynamics, even though I must listen more before I'm sure.
