Laurel & Hardy was shown in the UK from the mid 60s into the 80s, so were very well known and loved.

I've got a distant memory that the DJ who helped put Teenage Kicks on the map, John Peel, may have started playing it, and it simply took off.

    Hey, it's the UK!

1978 was their golden year. By comparison 1979 was a dud.

I love your avatar picture. It’s the ugliest picture of Frida I’ve ever seen.

From today's perspective, the #2 list is miles ahead of the #1 list (see your companion poll).

Wait til we get to 1977 and we can post the performance of the band (all four of them,) singing live along with the BBC Orchestra on Top of the Pops for Daddy Cool. Worth a watch.

    Only three for me:

Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder (1977)

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing - Leo Sayer

God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols (1977)

I know there's a lot of love for "The Killing of Georgie" by Rod the Mod, but, after repeated listens, it's never done anything for me.

The Macca tunes, which I liked a bit back in the day, haven't aged well, IMO.

Gettin' there -- but you'll be lucky to get three from me if you wander back into the synth-infected 80's!

You'll see a whole new me, however, if'n you jump into the Way-Back-Machine and do polls from 1963-1975. :agree:

I have done a 1973 UK #2’s thread today, but I don’t know how many of them you’ll be familiar with..

I've never enjoyed Let 'Em In but always appreciated the genius in Silly Love Songs, Sir Duke, Young Hearts Run Free, Boogie Nights and Killing of Georgie.

Young Hearts Run Free is a record I liked in 1976 and have continued to do so ever since. For some reason I didn’t buy it.

I recall a performance on TOTP of Young Hearts by Pan’s People’s temporary replacement, Ruby’s Flipper. It was truly awful. It wasn’t long after that Legs & Co took over. Not that I’m suggesting they were any better at all.

OK, so the Pistols have turned up in this list and not the #1 list...

Voted for it anyway. The rest are either awful or completely passed me by at the time. Plus ca change.
