I was able to download the music and the artwork but don't have the thirty page book. Ebay has the set for a decent price would it be worth it to buy the set to get the box it comes in and the book instead of making the cd's??

I think so. It's one of my very favorite box sets and it's a very well executed book, on textured stock. I can't imagine not having the complete package.

    The box is stellar.

When I got my box in 1989, it had two booklets in it. One of them was red, and the other was green. Never did figure that out. Good heavens, this November will be 26 years since I bought that box. That's 2/3 of my life ago

I've never seen the green booklet. Now I think I need to go find me one.:D

If I recall correctly, someone once told me the green one was in the 6 LP box, and the red one was in the 4 cd box. How I got both, I've no idea :)

I do remember the night I got that box set. I stayed up all night listening to all 4 discs.

Definitely one of the better box sets. Up there with the first Clapton Box.

    Done deal thanks to everyone.

  11. This is easily one of the best music box sets ever released. Sweet sound in a perfectly appropriate package.

I've got both the LP and cd box sets. Both of mine have the green book. Didn't know there was a red one.

BTW- I would have bought my sets after July 1991 because I discovered the Allmans when Shades of Two Worlds came out.

Good excuse for another poll: Allman Brothers Dreams box set - Green book or Red book? :D

I found a Dreams promo CD set at a record convention, but only after already picking up the box during its release week. There were 4 CDs with labels like the official release except that they say promo use or something similar. They look like the sampler label-wise.

The four discs come in a standard fatboy. It has only inserts for artwork - no booklet at all. Once again the artwork looks like the sampler's (which in turn looks like the box).

So... you should think of yourself as someone who was sent a compact fatboy review copy or promo set, and you are buying the full set out of respect for the whole effort - music, research compilation and mastering, and packaging.

Indeed, Dave. It was clearly designed and put together with a lot of reverence.

I must check the LP version purchased back in the day. The Cd box was purchased a couple of years ago.

Doug Schwartz. The mastering is done quite well.

    It's 1991 era mastering...warm, dynamic and crankable. That's my 2 cents :)

Ya know, I've often wondered what STDLALLMANKBO1 means on the bookelt.

For years, I've often wished and hoped for a Dreams 2 box of all live stuff...similar to the model for the Clapton Crossorads 2 box. Imagine live stuff from 1969-1979...but, in the last 10 years, we've gotten:

    Atlanta Pop Festival (1970)
The Complete Fillmore East Recordings (1971)
    Live At Winterland (1973)

    There's still room for:

A&R Studios 1971...remixed form the 16 track tapes, not those grey-are cd's which have speed issues.
Mar Y Sol; Puerto Rico 1972
    Warehouse; New Orleans, LA 1972
    Speedway; Watkins Glen, NY 1973
    Ciciv Center; Bakersfield, CA 1975
    Coliseum; Oakland, CA 1975
    Merriwether Post; Columbia, MD 1979

Yeah, my dad bought this box when it came out, I was 9 and spent HOURS listening to it and leafing through the books. Great set.

I always think of this box and Clapton's Crossroads boxes together (same distributor). Really the golden age of CD box sets.
