The living room is not the optimum site but I agree with you that the colored ones are better decorator wise than the whites, blacks etc. Would work great in a large den, music room, rec room etc. But I had an older relative who was an interior decorator and taught me not to be afraid of color.

Unless they live in a cartoon or Pee-Wee's Playhouse, I agree with the wife.

  4. These are the new Focals I was thinking of. You can swap out the colored fronts. I think the blues are beautiful.

I'm guessing they were bought by a 55-year-old man with a paunch who already had a sports car and needed a pair of speakers (that matched it).

  7. Tube gear is the next step in your training grasshopper.
Tube gear often appears warm and inviting. The visual appearance is both soothing and arousing and the mind wonders at the possibilities of the experience.
However, you better have a careful hand and you better manipulate the equipment properly lest you get burned. You may also ruin the whole thing with one wrong move.
The never ending array of potential improvements can consume a man while he slowly descends into madness at the thought of finally getting things just right...all while getting little in return regarding its real wants and needs except colored, unwanted sounds, and a lot of heat.

vintage models such as PIONEER's S-1010 and DSS-9/E10 are what come immediately to mind when i think of a good-looking stereo loudspeaker...

Between the design and the color, the WAF for a living room environment is exactly ZERO!

A good many women do enjoy listening to music and would not have an unreasonable objection to a more "normal" looking speaker. Perhaps in a natural wood finish or a piano black finish.

That is a good idea, simple and efficient, and they have flat tops! :)

    Best idea/solution yet!

I'm a woman and although I hate the red, I'd totally rock the orange speakers if I had the space for them. I love modern design and the orange speakers would fit right in decor-wise but sadly not size-wise.

But hey, with a nod to the title of the thread, I'm single, so maybe there's something to it. : )

  17. Possible design arrangement.
SVS style sub tower in the center firing up and out the tower vent.
Replace many of the armor bubbles with drivers as needed. A single stack for focused listening. Drivers in every bubble port for omni directional sound. A few panels full of drivers for room adjusted sound.
Use the suction cup and laser weapon for high frequency drivers with the ability to focus the output wherever desired.

No by wiring though...too complicated. :)

Well they are indeed orange and they are big!

But I am a big speaker type of guy. Here are one of my main speakers (photo is from another thread about Christmas dinner).

Which maybe explains why I am also still single. :wiggle:

Oh, and that's my sub to the left of the Altec Lansing vintage A7.

  20. I personal think the Focals look better than the Wilsons. Both sound amazing though. Both look robotic

That is what I thought the first time that I saw the big Focal's.

They reminded me of something that I would be seeing in Morbius' home, in Forbidden Planet.
