Only post-1970. I thought "Let It Be... Naked" was a failed attempt at trying to prove that Phil Spector was wrong. It had the opposite effect on me and I realized that I thought Spector did the most out of the material. It's still an okay album, for what it is.

Also, I didn't like the "LOVE" project at first. I thought leave The Beatles alone! Two members are dead... But when I finally I heard it I thought there were some cool mix-ups on it like "Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows".

Sgt. Pepper. I expected to hear the greatest album of all time. It wasn't even their best album IMO.

Same here. A neighbour lent me her copy and I returned it after playing it once. Have never listened to it since, although I know the individual tracks well enough.

With The Beatles and Beatles For Sale. They're just okay instead of great.

Let it Be. I was so relieved when they released "Let it Be Naked." I don't think LIBN is perfect, but I think Spector's versions of Across the Universe, I Me Mine and the Long and Winding Road are unlistenable.

I neither like nor dislike "LIBN", really. Like you, I think it's perfectly okay, but it's not my "go-to" version of the album...

I remember the massive amounts of pre-release hate "Love" received, and I admit I was very skeptical. Perhaps a search of this board will reveal otherwise, but I don't think I openly attacked it - I do think I was less than enthusiastic about it, though, and didn't expect it to be good.

I believe I bought it because I have Nerdy Beatles Completist Syndrome - and I really liked it! Not all the mashups work equally well, but most are enjoyable, and they give us a "new way" to hear the same old stuff...

Given your age, I'm not sure if the hype behind "Pepper's" is better or worse than it was 37 years ago when I first heard it.

How long ago did you first hear it?

Yes. Along with The "Red" album (too short), 1 (chart revisionism/omissions), Love (not a fan of most of the mash-ups), the BBC sets have been done much better by unofficial sources, the Anthology sets were also a dropped-ball considering the immense potential shown in unofficial sources.

I don't know if I am disappointed by it but "Beatles For Sale" is definitely my least played album of theirs.

As I related in all the Beatles "Weakest Link" threads, I loved pretty much all the albums when I first heard them in 1979. I was 12 and just wild about everything the band did - of course, I liked some better than others, but I still loved it all.

Biggest disappointment? Probably "Anthology 1". I liked parts of it and find it to be good for historical purposes, but there just wasn't a ton of material on there I really liked to hear - I didn't think it was an especially "listenable" collection.

Unlike others, I didn't have a lot of bootlegs, so it wasn't ruined from that POV - I just thought it wasn't an album I really liked.

    I enjoyed "Anthology 2" a lot more...

I found Revolver disappointing when I first heard it in 1966 and I find it overrated today. I find its current reputation an irritant - I think this had its origins in a mid-eighties argument that the Beatles regressed around the time of Pepper.

Part of its impact was the time and the context.

  24. Cover not so much but the lack of overdubs is nice. I'd like it remastered without the massive amount of noise reduction.
