I just purchased a Pioneer PL-514 turntable and Pioneer SX-727 receiver on Ebay (both are from the 1970s). They are both advertised to be working properly, but I want to bring them to a repair shop to have them cleaned, serviced, parts replaced as needed, etc. I am giving these to someone as a gift so I want them to be in perfect working order. Does anyone here have any suggestions for a good, reliable, honest repair shop in the Boston area? I have gone to a couple and did not have a great experience. Thanks in advance to any suggestions offered.

Have you tried Audiolab in Harvard Square? Not really sure how much they're into "vintage" stuff, but they did a bang-up job for me replacing the transport in an old Nakamichi tape deck.

Try Audio Studio Harvard St. Brookline.
