I have the 30 and the 30n should arrive shortly. The 30 really makes my Cornwalls sing!

I have them both. It’s a formidable combination that just won this year’s EISA award for best sound system

How is the DAC on the SACD 30? Just used as a standalone DAc.

Any comparisons to other DACs ?

    thanks

The non DAC is quite good. I chose it over both the DirectStream Junior and Border Patrol SE-i. Not that the Marantz is fundamentally better, just suits me better.

That said, the SACD 30n has secret sauce when it comes to discs. Amazing.

I was considering the 30n until I found out it did not have xlr outputs. It looked like a solid machine. I was really surprised that a piece of gear at this level didn’t offer xlr connections.

The KI Ruby doesn’t offer XLR either. I’ve spent time in the XLR camp, in my experience, it depends on the gear in terms of how important XLR is. Some pieces are geared towards XLR, though I don’t think XLR is necessarily inherently better. Ken Ishiwata knows his stuff and opted for single ended in the Ruby, which is what the 30n inherited. Not sure if that was his decision, or a Marantz decision to help support the up line price of the SA10.

I understand that the advantage of xlr really comes into play when you have long cable runs. It probably makes no difference with my short cables lengths. But I have used xlr cables everywhere in my system except for my turntable. I have spent a lot of money on my xlr cables that I use to connect my CD player. I want to use them with my next player.

It’s used for long runs and noisy environments like studios

live connected my benchmark DAC with XLR and RCA at the same time and switched back and forth in real time. Couldn’t tell a damn difference

Other than in extremely long runs balanced (XLR) cables offer no real advantage if the gear does not utilize a fully balanced topology.
