I wonder if this guy knows he's ripping people off. That's a lot of money for one cd.

    Hi folks.

Would you believe that there was a guy in Boston in the mid-eighties, at a then fairly well-known audio studio here, trying to sell one for $3000.00??

Probably not, but I was in the store buying a Magnavox CDB650 player, which was very hot then, and I saw "Abbey" behind the counter and inquired about the price. Talk about a rude awakening!!

No foolin'. Of course, at the time there was no release date in sight for anything Beatles so maybe three grand was an "OK" price......just joshin', of course and, thankfully, that joint and it's owner are long, long, long gone.

I believe Lance Hall had left a URL from Ebay where one in fact was sold for 500 bucks and change.

This had then put me on a quest for this CD at which I found one. I lost it in a bidding war.

I then found another that someone had listed only as an Abbey Road nothing about it being the 83 Toshiba until I click on it and read the description as well as saw the pictures of it.

I bid on it only a couple of times, I was didn't mention the auction until I had won the item. It was a bit tough as the seller was new to ebay and eventually I did get the CD in total Mint condition.

A forum user had seen it and mentioned to me after the auction was over if I hadn't been a bit sceptical about the seller because he had no positve feedback.

I sort of wondered if other's felt the same way here. Would you put a bid on an item if the seller had bad feedback or in fact was just a new seller that had no feedback.

I know there had been an Ebay discussion about SNIPES while I was in the Gortainia Jail locked up without a get out of Jail card.

I've had only one bad seller in the short amount of time I've used Ebay for which I have spent thousands on CD's.

I totally must admit that Steve and all my fellow forum member's helped me realize that I must have certain CD's to listen to for Beatle's stuff. Somehow my wife just dosen't understand though,:sigh: but I've tried to convice her that you guys know best:laugh: so this way I totally am not to blame.;)

Anyways what are your thoughts and experiences on Ebay's seller's that are either New or have gotten bad feedback??

Wasn't that Japanese Abbey Road hissy as hell?

I don't think I'd call the 83 Abbey Road, Hissy sounding.

I started a thread about liking the 1st four Mono Beatles CD's. This I'm sure you can find if you missed any of it. However since I had started the thread and it had recieved quite a few posts just to get the knee jerk reaction I was hoping for, in case industry people who I'm sure cared if they got a chance to read what the good people around here were thinking about the Beatles Mastering as they stand at least the one's I got from Capitol. These would be the 1987 releases. So here is a qoute if I may from Steve about the Beatles Mastering sound except the original Toshiba 1983 Abbey Road CD. And I qoute him,

None, except Abbey Road, first edition.

I just looked at it. The only thing that sort of bugs me is that the picture that is on the auction page of the front cover in the left hand upper corner it should have the words in white lettering "Compact" in small letters the word DISC in larger outline lettering and under that it chould say the words Digital Audio also in small lettering.

The discription given about - Back cover, liner notes and inside cover are in English and Japanese,

This would sound correct, but - One of the first CD's I owned, bought with my first cd player around 1980.

That's close but no cigar as it was 1983 however it's still also close enough. My only problem with it is it dosen't have a picture of the CD or disc itself. and there's no mistaking the way that disc looks.
My other concern is that there is no mentioning of the company Toshiba in the above discription either.

But if it's the real deal WOW!!! You got a better deal than anyone I know including me and mine was 26 bucks and change. YIKES you got it for 16.50. JohnnyH I'm praying for ya man that it's the real deal and it good condition too.

Best Of Luck and ENJOY it's a keeper!:)

When that time comes I will be the first one ahead of you in line at the store waiting to get my copies as well. At that point, I'm wondering how much the 1987 versions will go for after on Ebay if they are deleted from the redbook.

It's funny but ya gotta laugh and think about it. I mean how many of us either sold off the old LP's when CD's became the newest best thing. I can just remember the piles of used records getting larger and cheaper and being sold for pennies so that record stores could make more room for the new and in coming CD's Long boxes and all.

There wasn't a catalog number in the description either Dave.

    But it shoudl be CD35-3016.
    Mine also has YEX-749-A-B(CD)
The disc should also be EMI/ODEON as the label of course Tohiba/Manufactured in Japan is on the disc as well as the year 1969

I was bidding off the description, I figured the guy maybe didn't have a scanner and just 'borrowed' an Abby (sic) Road cover scan from another site. I felt I had to keep the item quiet so that none of you guys sniped it at the last minute. I actually made a mistake when typing in my bid amount, I typed $50,00 with a comma, not adecimal point and EBay entered $5000 as my minimum bid before I noticed - gulp!

But the bidding all turned out ok in the wash - I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it is the real deal; I'll let you know the outcome when it arrives. Until then I'll make do with the CD-R a forum member kindly sent me last year.

I had that CD player as well! It was reviewed as the best sounding player releases up to that time. Of course, it has been surpassed with the newer equipment, but it was great for it's time.

I gave mine to my brother - I should give it a listen for old time's sake...

After two weeks of trepidation, the CD finally arrived........ and it was the real deal!!! A Toshiba Abbey Road CD, CP35-3016. The CD, booklet and inserts were all in fine shape, the jewel box was replaced with a nice new one, and the CD-R in the rack is finally replaced by the real thing.......... RESULT!!!

    Congrats JohnnyH!

Now, if I can only get as lucky. The one I had my eye on went for $60.00, a little pricey for my budget. :sigh:
