Haven't listened to that one in ages and can't play it right now (still waiting for my new gear). What's so bad about it?
I love Smoke Stack. Is there a good edition available aside from the original or the Liberty from 1970?
Yep, and unfortunately I'm still waiting for the new stuff. The Dutch distributor told me they are waiting for a shipment from England.
There are 2 items left, my KEF LS50 monitor speakers, nothing else. Waiting for a Naim CD5 XS CD player and a Naim Nait XS2 amp.
I picked up several of the Audio Wave Blue Notes to listen to at work and I was surprised how loud they are compared to the old TOCJ (pre RVG) discs. Not just loud, but many of them have digital clipping as well. I didn't want to have to needle drops of the Music Matters vinyl to have good sounding digital versions. I'll spare you guys the waveforms (I only looked at them after listening to the discs), but they are clearly visible on them.
A couple of these XRCDs, Soul Station by Hank Mobley and True Blue by Tina Brooks are out of stock at all the usual outlets including Elusive Disc. What are the chances of a re-press?
Pretty slim for the time being. Audiowave doesn't seem like a hive of activity. I'm not that optimistic about the few remaining titles in their release schedule seeing the light of day.
As of this moment Acoustic Sounds has them both: http://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=results&start=81 &CategoryID=32
No, only on maybe 2 or 3 discs. There is a consistent mastering "style" through out. I find their sister Music Matters 45 rpm LPs are just plain better, most notably in the dynamic shadings between instruments. The tone on the XRCD24's is very good.
May I ask which ones? I have all of them up through the batch with The Cat Walk and Cape Verdean Blues. I've never noticed any digital clipping. Is it something that began with the more recent releases?
How did you determine that, phone call? I was able to put both of them in my "Shopping Cart" with no indication of any back order. I did not try to buy them though as I have the entire set so far, just trying to help out.
Yeah, it's misleading. You can put it in the cart, but for "Availability" it's listed as "Back Ordered."
That figures. I have a feeling that "Backordered" in this situation means never to be back IN stock again.
Maybe I can luck out and find them at retail somewhere. These XRCDs, Audio Wave or otherwise, definitely have a different sound than the AP SACDs but I do like them despite being louder and treblier (probably not a real word bit so what)
