Voivod is it for me. Every other artist has disappointed me to the point where I gotta make sure I care enough before I plunk down the bread for their latest.

That said, Voivod disappointed me considerably with Negatron when it came out. This is mostly because vocalist Snake was missing. But somehow I bought the follow-up anyway. I might have given up then if not for the fact that Snake returned for the next album, so I enthusiastically grabbed that one and everything else that came after.

I never thought they'd survive the MCA Years, but those guys just keep on going.

Most newly released music I buy these days is by such an artist, of whom there are too many to name (but all have careers at least 20 years old).

RUSH, they could release an album of fart sounds and I'd be like "listen to those time signature changes!"

Glad you added that... otherwise I'd have said 10cc, and then listed all the reasons why that's no longer true.

For new releases from these artists, I don't need to listen to the album before the purchase. In some cases such as Isbell's latest, I purposefully didn't listen to any of the tracks made available for preview.

    Richard Thompson
    Jason Isbell
    Gillian Welch
    David Rawlings
    Sturgill Simpson
    Amanda Shires
    Sarah Jarosz
Alison Krauss (with or without Union Station)

At this point, the only auto-buy for me is Scott Walker. Guaranteed to be interesting. I used to have a long list, but not anymore. Almost everything I buy now is a reissue.

Absolutely no-one; those days are well and truly over. I have virtually zero interest in the 'dinosaurs' still trooping on, and whilst there are plenty of new bands I like, I'll listen on Spotify several times before I consider buying an album.

A lot of prog metal is an auto-buy.
I love to be challenged and yet I love a lot of laidback and even poppy stuff and anything inbetween. Elton John? Elvis Costello? ABBA? Zappa? Between The Buried And Me? Yup!

The CURE....only once failed to draw me in with`Wild Mood Swings`.......we worship at the alter of the rock god that is Robert Smith.
The EELS.....someone else mentioned them earlier on.......every album is a revelation of clever surprises.
AND......believe it or not....PALOMA FAITH.....if she continues to play her cards right particularly in the states, and stops playing the fool, she could be up there with the greats.
