I'd have to give the edge to my musical fidelity a3.2cr preamplifier

Agreed completely on the Musical fidelity knobs. The M3i has just one defining feature. Smack dab in the middle of the silvery aluminium face plate is that well sized and perfectly engineered volume knob. It feels solid and even better it is a pleasure to use.you can actually fine tune the exact level of power you want. Should be normal but so far this is by far the amp, that got this down to a .

The giant, heavyweight, luxuriously smooth, gold-plated Musical Fidelity A300 integrated gain control FTW.

Nothing in the audio world equals the silky feel of some of the best communications receivers of the tube era, or a HP 8640B generator.

Knob feel is something many manufacturers of several thousand dollar equipment really should work on. The knob itself should be a machined piece of fairly dense material: in the age of CNC that's not too expensive to implement. McIntosh used what felt like the old seventies GM chromed plastic dash knobs on their universal disc player, turning a $4 digitizer.

^ Now that my post will get totally ignored... :uhhuh:

Back in the 1960s and '70s, we'd judge a receiver or a tuner by spinning the radio's tuning knob. If the dial travelled from one end of tuner to the other without stopping, that was a good one.

Loved them Marantz receivers with Gyro Tune, baby!

Some of us think that that's what most audio reviews are based on, anyway. :p

I wish there was a site that rated based on measurements, but I don't want to open that can if worms. :D

how a volume knob feels is very important to me because it is the one thing I touch the most when using the unit.

The knob on this little guy is rock solid.

Mackie is a company that knows their knobs. I have a Mackie Big Knob, and Makie is quite proud of it. I have a Big Knob and I tested to make sure the knob feel was right.

Would be even more punny if Manley Labs made something called the Big Knob. Then you could say you have a Manley Big Knob. No doubt it would also sound better than the Mackie.

Great gear and the heft/feel of that remote is nice, but I hated the loud "clack" it made when adjusting the volume.

I can't believe the TSA lets her on an airplane. Or the FAA, because if cabin pressure went out there would be a huge explosion.

While I like a good knob as much as the next guy none of my current components has any.
Push buttons only so I'm envious of all you knob twisters.

    EEWWWW GROSS!.....................How old are you?

I don't seem to see the wonderful amp you own on your profile page.

I do agree with you on the cheap knobs, but their equipment isn't as bad as you're making them out to be. IMHO

Nah, Sony is the king of remotes! You need to have dozens of buttons, and then a shift key to double them up, the color keys that retask it again! Only one I had that was even better from Sony added a flip up door on the top third that added a whole 'nother set of buttons under the ones on the door!

Ouch! Man, hope have the fire suit handy!!!!
