Heard this today and was floored.....Al Kooper did an amazing 5.1 remix...Dont pass this one up...It is a must have of a classic record...Nuff said....Going to listen to the Hoffman remaster stereo on the disc next...This is the way Hybrid 5.1 should be done...5.1 mix, SACD, and 2 channel stereo on the same disc....all remastered

    Glad you like it.

People have asked me what I think of the 5.1 version. Haven't heard it, sorry. I think Bob Ludwig actually mixed and mastered it with Al Kooper himself a few years ago.

The two channel version that I mastered with Stephen Marsh is from the original analog tape and came out very nice as is the Blood, Sweat & Tears first album I'm working on now.

Any chance for an "adventures in mastering" thread about this release?

Have you compared it to the Mastersound gold version?

I own both and I am leaning towards this as it really makes you feel like you are in the studio...I am partial to the 5.1 mix as it makes the music sound like it is in 3D...

They used to play 'Season of the Witch' and 'It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry' often on KCJC-FM (a Free-Form station in Kansas City) back when this was new. They would seldom announce the song titles or performers - just play songs. I kept wondering "Who is this? This is great!".

I didn't find out until after I bought the album. Ah-ha - now I know - and I own them! (I didn't even know they were by the same group.)

I'm looking forward to this. (It's been pre-ordered since I was able to do so.)

Now that's the one I want in 5.1 !!!! Also, because of Steve's remastering, it'll mark the first time I'll have ever listened to the stereo layer of a multichannel SACD.

Cool, I've been on a Bloomfield kick lately.

Mine is sitting in the Amazon cart, I just need $3.53 to push it up to free shipping.

I think it's safe to assume the Kooper 5.1 mix will be on the disc.

Steve, I assume you haven't heard it because you don't have 5.1 setup? Otherwise it is weird, you must be curious.

Just pre-ordered mine. Thanks for the heads up. Amazon.ca was my best option in terms of cost. Never ordered from them before. (Thankfully SACDs don't have region codes.)

Out of interest, here's what AMG says at the end of their review:
This is one of those albums that seems to get better with age and that gets the full reissue treatment every time a new audio format comes out. This is a super session indeed.

I am confused. Are we talking about Super Session or CIFTTM? If "Super Session" which is the Steve mastered version?

    Both
Steve mentioned that he mastered SS from the original tapes, that what appears on the new SS SACD from Audio Fidelity.
And in the same breath he said he was was working on the first BST alabum, which is CIFTTM

Ah, that makes more sense. I do not own any 5.1 Audio Fidelities. Do they have a menu similar to a DVD to select the format you want to listen to? I do not have a surround sound system.
