Watching the Keep It Country cable channel, I come across quite a lot of Australian country. Some nice stuff goin' on down there. Ex. The Pigs:

My biggest grief with Aussie country is that the majority that I see (country channel foxtel) use an American accent .
Keith Urban is a classic example , American accent in all his songs . I have to wonder if he reverts back to his
Aussie accent when he tours home .

Yeah, nah, yeah probs Tie Me Kangaroo Down and Waltzing Matilda. Those are true blue Aussie classics, cobber. Old mate could pull out some bloody good billabong campfire songs when he wanted to.

These guys are great live! So funny. They have or did have a residency at our famous
Tamworth Country Music Festival at a particular venue that had massive crowds every night.
They have a great ability of taking famous songs, even top 40 stuff, and making it bluegrass.
    Quite a hoot!

There's bunches of great Aussie songs I'm sure the American's would like it they 'got into it'.
Slim Dusty, John Williamson, Lee Kernaghan (to a degree), and Troy Cassar-Daley for example.

Singing is like talking, you mimic what you hear. I sing in a US accent, because that's what I grew up hearing. The british invasion bands predominantly sang in Us accents because they grew up listening to Us blues and pop ... It isn't as bizarre as one might think

The real Australian country music was recorded on 78's, primarily on the Regal Zonophone and Rodeo labels.
Slim Dusty, The McKean Sisters, Tex Morton, Buddy Williams, Shirly Thoms, and more.

The old Australian country artists knew how to yodel, as well - with flair and melody, very different to the florish at the end of a line which typified much American country yodelling.

Sadly, this great tradition is totally overlooked by most young Australian country music fans. As Slim sang on one of his 1980 recordings,

They're saying that it's country how about that
It's just rock and roll in a cowboy hat

I'm almost scared to say it, but Rolf Harris did a good version of that one.

Slim Newton's 'Redback On The Toilet Seat' is a Aussie country music classic!
A big hit back in 1972.

The original EP artwork on Hadley Records.

And I believe that the success of "Redback" saved Hadley from going belly-up.
