I just need PPM, Help! and Sgt Pepper to complete my mono collection.

fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

I got really lucky with Pepper. Picked it up on Ebay for $35. Wasn't sealed but the seller probably only played it once.

the vinyl is described as mint/unplayed,is there any reason to believe otherwise?

funny.. looks like a shipping damage. :D

    and how much is that?

Most of the used vinyl I buy is at least slightly overgraded.

I must have looked at a different auction description that said VG+ for the record, so my previous statement should be slightly ameneded.

That being said, this copy of Pepper is still damaged and not representative of a fair market value.

As for FMV the last 7 sales have been (in US dollars)

    $132.65
    $92.50 (opened)
    $195.00
    $128.49
    $80 (opened)
    $199.99
    $123.50

So about $80-90 opened and $125-$150 sealed?

Prices for the mono vinyl box are high on Discogs now, unless you want to buy from Russia.....

US boxes are over $800. Canada over $700.

$160 and above for unopened Sgt. Pepper.

While I think Sgt. Pepper is worth that much, I would never pay $108 for Help!

These are the statistics for the last 11 Discogs transactions.
    • Last sold on Oct 21, 2018
    • €378.86 Average
    • €356.00 Median
    • €749.00 Highest
    • €178.00 Lowest
The €749 is the peak. The other 10 are between €445 and €178.
I guess you're talking about asked prices.

Are the unplayed Sgt. Pepper's from the vinyl box set selling as high as the sealed copies?

OK, I just checked Discogs and am confused. What exactly am I not getting here? Why is the 2014 mono "Sgt.Pepper" so expensive while the others I checked ("Revolver" & "The Beatles") are not?

the originals were relatively cheap back in their day as well - and they pressed 100'000's of them.... today you'd be lucky to find a vg+ or better original for $128.. :sigh:

because it's been out of print for about a year, or longer, while the demand is high.... and now it's out of stock almost everywhere, unlike Rubber soul, Revolver, the White Album and Mono masters

Well.... you can hardly compare a 51 year old pressing to one that is barely five years old. And probably about to be reissued again very soon. Obviously the original is much harder to find in decent and complete condition. Hence worth the price. But whoever pays that much for a recent reissue, clearly doesn't know much about vinyl collecting. Or markets. Probably these people also are going to tell you how "scarce" this new edition is! :biglaugh:

same thing with valuable oop reissues. once they're gone the prices skyrocket. supply and demand... yes, there were THOUSANDS on the market a few years back, but now the supply is extremely limited (there are only 13 copies for sale on Discogs, 1 on amazon.com, about 5 on eBay and thats about it). and no, no one is willing to sell for $25 anymore..

but of course I agree 100 percent that decent and complete Originals are much harder to find.... a complete nm copy would cost you about $500 today

The reason these are worth their weight in gold is because they used the analog tapes and they used the original cutting notes. In the digital age - its hard to find without paying through the nose to AP or another reissuing brand. The fact these were 22 dollars at one point - well that was a steal.

What "coffee"? My metaphor for overpaying would hardly be coffee!

Just remembered that the - supposedly - aaa "40th Anniversary" edition of "Ziggy Stardust" also fetched quite a bit when it was oop around 2015. Then came the reissue. And prices went back to normal.

Right??? He claims that people must not know about vinyl collecting or the market but is utterly shocked that Pepper is worth/selling for more than a hundred bucks.

Coffee is exactly the right metaphor...hello pot, this is kettle LMAO

Will there be more reissues of Beatles albums on vinyl? Probably. Will there be more reissues of mono Beatles albums on vinyl? Perhaps, but certainly not anytime soon. There were just 50th anniversary reissues for two albums in the catalogue – neither of which included mono vinyl. The last analog mono reissues prior to 2014 were what? The red Japanese reissues from 1986? Before that you have the 1982 Japanese mono albums, then there are the 1981 UK mono reissues. Mono vinyl is aimed at a niche audience within a niche audience – it seems unlikely there will another wave of mono reissues in the near future
