Someone in an earlier thread this year mentioned the Beatles Carnegie Hall concerts on Feb. 12, 1964. He said that, for the Beatles first NY concert, it is also one of the least documented of shows (with regard to photos and audio for it). In fact, I have never seen a photo from this concert until this one below, which I came across while searching for something else. The Fabs played 2 shows at Carnegie Hall: one at 7:45 pm and one at 11:15 pm (hey, that last one is really late for a teeny-bopper show). If anyone has any other photos, could you post them here? Thanks, Arnie

Fantastic! Getty Images must be asking a hefty price to print them in other books because I've never seen them before. Thanks, Arnie

And look at the audience sitting on the stage. I don't think that ever happened again.

That "Hey Jude" performance had a close audience on the David Frost show, was it? Frost Programme, right

Didn't they do an afternoon show that day too?

At least one participant was unstaged. She was pulled back up.

Looks like Electro-Voice 654 omni mics. In Seattle that same year, it was 655c omnis.

    Great photos; thanks for posting.

Great pictures - have never seen any of these before.

At the risk of threadcrapping, I just thought it noteworthy that they should have performed on February 12 in NYC.
February 12, 1924 in New York City saw the premiere of Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue at the Aeolian Hall, performed by Paul Whiteman & his Orchestra, with Gershwin on piano.

Seems like greatness has a habit of taking place on that day...

The premier of Rhapsody In Blue, okay.

One screaming Beatlemania concert among many screaming Beatlemania concerts. :sigh:

    Anything else?

Here's a trivia question. After the Beatles Feb. 1964 performances, when would be the next time that a rock 'n' roll music act played the Carnegie?

Buck Owens played there in, I think, 1966, but then the question becomes: Was Buck Owens music rock & roll?

The Knack in 1979! (Thanks Doug).

I'd like to see a vintage write up on the Beatles Carnegie Hall gig.

The crowd looks pretty well behaved in the photos. Maybe the screaming wasn't quite so bad. I would have to think the folks on the stage could hear things better than most shows.

Actually, Bill Haley & The Comets beat the Beatles there by nine years on May 6, 1955. Other Rock acts have played there after the Beatles, including the Beach Boys, Elton John, Billy Joel, Ike & Tina Turner in the early 1970's, and please correct me, I believe the Dave Clark Five played there too.

1979 is a bit on the late side!

Chicago recorded a live album there in April 1971. Led Zeppelin played there in October 1969, but I believe the next act after The Beatles were The Rolling Stones.

Two shows on Feb 12: Not a matinee afternoon one, but two at night---one at 7:45 pm and one at 11:15 pm (hey, that last one is really late for a teeny-bopper show). Arnie

I believe in one of the photos a girl in the crowd has either a 8mm Camera or audio recording equipment

Actually, Carnegie Hall does occasionally have stage seating for some events to this day. (Yo-Yo Ma in 2008 and 2010 for an example).
