It has been announced that Volume 1 of Lewisohn's biographic trilogy goes up to the end of 1962, ending December 31, 1962.

BUT did they also announce what the exact years will be included in Volume 2? That is, it will go from 1963 until when? Will it go through 1966 (the end of touring), or do you think it will go up to Brian's death in the late summer of 1967 (post-Pepper)? Or to some other time? Any thoughts on what this cut-off date for Volume 2 will be?

He'll be hard pressed to top the exhaustive research done on this subject by Hans Olaf Gottfridsson for The Beatles from Cavern to Star Club, published in 1997.

At the moment, it's George's trip to India and John's filming of How I Won The War in fall 1966 but Mark hasn't finished it yet.

Ooh no, The Grapes on Mathew Street is a right tip. Better go to the Monro, better ales, better part of town:winkgrin:. By the way, Pete has chatted with Mike McCartney and of course Neil Aspinall over many years. So, you know, they know what they feel about it.

Do you know whether it is true that the Extended Special Edition is 1036 pages longer than the standard edition?

I love the Beatles and all of the small little details, and seeing as that is the case, do you think that it is worth saving up for the Extended edition?

I am still waiting on when I will put in an order yet. The one big thing in my mind is that why is it with this book that the Deluxe Edition has to mirror (in some ways) what the record industry does with CDs and their related standard/deluxe edition packages? I'm a lot like some of you othere. I want to read about every single thing I could possibly learn from these books from Lewisohn. But why does the price have to be so much for the Deluxe Edition? I really want to buy it, but I have to weigh this with all of the 4th Quarter music I'm buying as well. I just really hope, as time draws nearer for the book releases, that there will be some kind of significant price drop on the deluxe edition.

No, the Deluxe version will NOT be that much longer. Look how it measures out so far:

    Standard UK version: 960 pages

Standard USA version with Endnotes: 1250 pages --- presumably the 960 pages of the UK edition PLUS 290 pages of Endnotes (That's a lot of Endnotes!!!)

DELUXE UK version: 1856 pages --- presumably the 1250 pages of the USA edition PLUS about 600 more pages (probably a combination of more text and more endnotes)

So the Deluxe UK version is longer by about 600 pages (of some unknown combo of more text and endnotes) compared to the USA standard edition. If you are comparing the Deluxe UK version to the standard UK version, it also will be 600 pages longer plus the 290 endnote pages.

Thanks, whoever said that is obviously wrong.

Do you think that it is worth ordering the Deluxe UK edition? Do you think that the extra 600 pages will contain more info, or will it just be things like even more endnotes? Does anyone know?

The US endnotes will be a translation of English/Liverpudlian phrases into American ;)

But seriously, that's a good breakdown. I think some of the extra 600 pages will be photographs, correct?

Oh, I hope so. Do you know if any will be extra info?

At this point, I don't know. Lewisohn indicated in one of his few interviews that the Deluxe version will have more text (as opposed to just more endnotes), but he didn't break it down percentage-wise into how much more exactly. And I also have no idea if the Deluxe version is a much fancier physical version of the standard edition, like with nicer paper, more photos, larger size book, etc. Anything is possible as of now. I think whether the deluxe version is worth the extra money will become clear during the month between the release of the standard and deluxe editions.

I'm curious to see why the deluxe edition will be costing $150 US more than the standard edition. That's a huge difference, hopefully they put together a nice package and not just 600 extra pages for all that dough.
