I thought their announcement was specifically referring to that company that announced the downloads, Wippit.

The problem with these Beatles rumours is that because it's the Beatles, everyone feels they have to report on it even if they only half understand the information they're getting.

Don't forget....... Paul like to put stuff out around the time a new Beatle 'thing' comes out. Yes. Yes. Yes, he does. He's been doing it since "Flaming Pie". Anyway, I hope Paul's nice and ANGRY. This could be Paul's "Plastic Ono Band"!! I want him to make the most passionate music he can make.

What "new Beatle 'thing'" came out around the same time as Flaming Pie?

Yes, it's clever. I wonder how many kids not old enough to drive would actually be downloading Beatles songs.

The thread titled "Apple: no Beatles downloads to come" has been merged with this thread so we can keep all the non-news about the downloads together in one place.

Ooops. Sorry Surfin' Jesus. Didn't know you replied to that already. Unrelated, but I thing the Stones try to ape McCartney's release dates, also.

Flaming Pie came out about seven or eight months after Anthology 3. Is it that close, really? I know he said he was inspired by the Anthology, but I don't know that I would say he was piggybacking on it.

Yeah, I actually see that as an example of trying to create a bit of distance from the last Beatles release.

If there's a new Beatles release every couple of years and a new McCartney release every couple of years, they can never be all that far apart.

Exactly Dave and Marky.... this is non-news. There has been NO word from Apple regarding downloads, other than Aspinall saying the will be no exclusivity clause with ITunes. Maybe Apple Inc. is sulking about this. But does anyone here on the forum give a damn about downloads  . I sure don't. Ron

I do indirectly. As has been discussed in a lot of other threads, CD sales are dropping a lot, so physical releases may end up before long as a niche market. Making Beatles music available for download helps keep it accessible to new generations and less likely to be relegated to "senior citizen music" status among the young. If the market shrinks too much, the likelihood of future releases of any kind becomes less and less. Call me a pessimist, but this is how I see it.

I personally wouldn't purchase the Beatles downloads, but I will purchase hi-res remasters or vinyl re-issues. Depending on the quality of the CDs, I might even consider some of the redbooks. I have most of the albums that interest me on reasonably good vinyl and most of the 80's CDs except for those dreadful first 4, so the remastered CDs probably won't interest me.

So in short, anything that helps circulate the music and keep it alive is good in my book.

I do, if there's any kind of otherwise-unavailable music involved.

Well sure... if they make available previously unavailable songs or versions, yes. But one would presume that the standard catalogue would be available before offering anything unique. Ron

To add more nonsense to the previous four pages:

"An Apple a day keeps Dr. Robert away."
