And there were at least 2300 online preorder cancellations from members of this forum, too.

  4. That just shows how pathetic the music business is if those LP's made the 200 with 2,000 copies sold.

I noticed tonight that an NPR program I listened to on the way home was partially paid for by Capitol Records and the new Beatles box and individual 180 GM lps. That was a bit surprising.

Probably not too far from it. No way of knowing for sure of course, but it would seem safe to venture that the vast majority of those buying the box if not members of this forum, are at least very similar in nature (read: hard core fans). At close to $400 for a collection of mono vinyl in 2014, I would not think many casual fans would be making the purchase. One or two albums as a novelty maybe, the entire box, probably not.

  9. Wow that seems low. So there are 37,700 box sets left plus individual LPs?

    Cutout bins?

Not really. This is the very definition of a niche item.

So they sold 2,300 boxes at 11 albums each, or 25,300 albums (counting multiple record albums as one). Then 2,000 individual copies of 5 albums for 10,000. So about 35,000 albums and one assumes a couple thousand more in total of the others so around 40K. I don't know if that is bad or good. My hope is over the next year or two the sell out so there is incentive to do this again for other artists.

One wonders if they had done this one in 2012 instead what the numbers would have looked like. Would it have beat that box set if it were first.

I'm waiting for Black Friday. The waiting just got a little harder, however, because I just received Magical Mystery Tour in the mail. Just in giving it a quick listen I can the good sound.

Sure hope they don't drill a hole through the surplus boxes. But $199 sounds pretty good to me!

So 2,299 other people are just as insane as I am.

Should I be comforted or disquieted by this?

    Ash76 Wait actually yeah no

Kind of skews the figures a bit then when many of us bought from other countries.

I appreciate that the WSJ cared enough to print a story about its purchase. I wonder what this would have sold in the late 70s eaarly 80s?
