Smashing Pumpkins. In the world of Metal, it would be Pantera.

Surprised LIVE is not on this list. They were my favorite band of the 90s.

It might have already been said but no Wu Tang, Tribe, Digables and many others makes this a tough list.

Eww. What a terrible decade. I really like some of those bands, but I just can't see my way to voting for any of them as best of a decade. So, the obvious answer is Dead Can Dance. Their last album was '94, but I kept them in heavy rotation for a long time after that. Needed to drown out the noise.

I know right, I voted for Oasis because they are by far my favorite band of the 90s. I also like Blur a lot, but I never have understood the love for grunge bands.

    It's obviously Radiohead.

But Doves should also be in the poll.

No vote for any of those on the list.

My vote would go to Porcupine Tree.

    Catherine Wheel for me.

Doves' first LP was released in 2000. They are one of my favorite bands, if not my overall favorite band, of the '00s.

But of the bands you list, Soundgarden

Here's how I'd rank the bands you list:

Stone Temple Pilots | Alice in Chains (tied)
    R.E.M.
    Pavement
    Nirvana
    Radiohead
    Faith No More
    Supergrass
    Blind Melon
    Pearl Jam
    Bush
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Sublime
    Green Day
    Foo Fighters
    Pixies

I'm not really familiar enough with these to rank them:

    Blur
    Collective Soul
Elastica (never even heard of them)
    Oasis
    Pulp (not familiar at all)
Suede (never even heard of them)
    The Verve
    Weezer

Some 90s bands (sticking pretty strictly to artists who worked as bands, at least live if not in the studio) I like more than nineteen of the bands you listed . . . arguably some of these are just as much 80s bands, but you included R.E.M. and Faith No More:

    2 Unlimited
    African Head Charge
    Aka Moon
    Anthrax
    Beastie Boys
    Bela Fleck & the Flecktones
    Belle and Sebastian
    Bill Bruford's Earthworks
    Biohazard
    Black Box
    The Chemical Brothers
    Deee-Lite
    Deus Ex Machina
    Drive Like Jehu
    Fishbone
    Fugazi
    Geto Boys
    Jane's Addiction
    Korn
    Kyuss
    Mansun
    Medeski, Martin & Wood
    Megadeth
    Melvins
    Meshuggah
    Metallica
    Monster Magnet
    Morphine
    Neurosis
    Nine Inch Nails
    NoMeansNo
    The Orb
    OutKast
    Pantera
    Porcupine Tree
    Porno for Pyros
    Primus
    Prodigy
    Public Enemy
    Rage Against the Machine
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Ruins
    Sepultura
    Sigur Ros
    Slayer
    Sonic Youth
    Stereolab
    They Might Be Giants
    Tin Machine
    Tool
    Tribal Tech
    U Totem
    Wu Tang Clan
    X-Legged Sally

Suedes second album and their B-Side album rank among the best records ever made IMO. I've got Dog Man Star on vinyl and the vinyl re-issue is way better than the CD I've been listening to since the 90s.

It's hard to think a modern band would put out an album that ambitious now.

    Supergrass got my vote.

Gomez might actually be my favorite, but they were only around for the final two years of the decade.

Gomez made 2 absolutely amazing albums. Their third was pretty good.... And then there was their 4th album... And after that I stopped paying attention.

Supergrass are awesome. I remember seeing them right when they put out their first single at the Red Rose in Rugeley. My first gig... Bluetones were supporting them. That was a 3.50 well spent!

A major shout out to Terrapin Station for bringing up X-Legged Sally in the best bands of the 90s.

I'd also add Joe Henry and Kula Shaker.

I voted for R.E.M because, although the glory days of the 80s were behind them they sit put out 5 killer albums in the 90s. Not too shabby indeed.
