The Thing, all the way for me.

I just rewatched Halloween for the first time in years, and the awful acting of Laurie's friend, Annie, made me turn it off halfway through.

I'm a big fan of Big Trouble, so that gets my runner-up vote.

Big trouble and Thing equally fabulous

  5. The Thing
    Escape from New York
Starman (much better than the similar E.T.--I'm ready for ya Colin!)
    Big Trouble in Little China
    They Live
    Halloween
    Assault on Precinct 13
    Elvis
    In The Mount of Madness
    Vampires

It's not a very good movie but I've always found Prince of Darkness a fascinating film in premise if not in actual execution.

Love to see him make a new movie on a student film budget.

Tough choice, especially between Escape from New York and The thing.
Ghosts of Mars doesn't seem to be well regarded but I thought it was quite enjoyable too.

As millions of voters will prove today, it's your right as an American to be horribly, terribly, pathetically, dangerously wrong! ;) :D

The Thing has so many classic scenes, they are impossible to count.

CrazyCatz Great shot kid. Don't get cocky!

Well seems JC is Alive and Kicking and even involved with Latest instalment of HALLOWEEN pt III(?) think even Jamie Lee Curtis is onboard(again?) JC also doing some Horror Show/Series I believe or at least involved with.

Starman is a better movie than ET. I like In The Mouth Of Madness just a jot more than The Thing as the whole collapsing reality business is a favorite of mine. It was like HPL meets PKD.

I voted The Thing but Halloween is a tie for me. In third place, I've got to go Big Trouble in Little China.

The Thing, one of those rare films where the remake out-does the original. JC has a number of great films, but The Thing deserves to sit beside Frankenstein and Dracula.

    The Thing.

Any excuse to watch it, i simply love it and it holds up really well even now in the days of CGI for everything.

You had to act more for non cgi movies, I think that's the films appeal.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is another( though not JC related).

I went for Halloween but didn't really feel qualified to vote as I have only seen two of his other films, to my knowledge (The Thing and They Live, though I saw Dark Star on television years ago and can't remember anything about it).

Hst, I rate those three films very highly and can remember the fuss Halloween caused in 1978. I caught up with that film when it was televised in the early 80s and I never get bored with it.

Generally, I like directors who work on low budgets (generally speaking, the bigger the budget, the duller the film, imo) so I'm predisposed to like Carpenter's work. I must explore it further.

    Top 3 for me:

    1. The Thing
    2. Assault on Precinct 13
    3. Halloween

Generally I don't think Assault gets the credit it deserves.
