    With Joni, it's pretty easy.

    Step 1, get this:

Step 2, get everything that came after... ;)

I'd go for Hejira, to me that's where she really found her very own style, plus her music and lyrics on that album are completely original.

For the Roses gets my nod, with Hejira running a close second.

No one kill me, but it's in this order for me:
    1. Ladies of the Canyon. "Morning Morgantown" just makes it that much better than Blue.
    2. Blue. "The Last Time I Saw Richard" and "This Flight Tonight" I always find myself skipping. But "A Case of You", "California", and "All I Want" are masterpieces, and I feel like a fake Joni fan because they are the most popular off the album :help:
    3. Clouds. It's a classic. I may just be a little biased because it's the era of Joni's bangs (I have a thing for them okay:wiggle:) But "Chelsea Morning" and "I Don't Know Where I Stand" are my favorites off this album.

I don't know to much about Joni, but it is always a good sign when fans have such divergent ideas about what an artist greatest album is,

The Hissing of Summer Lawns. I wonder what album would win if there was a poll.

"The Hissing...." of course. A gorgeous piece of work. Am album so dark and jazz influenced that it can't be categorized. One of my favorite albums of all time.

Love your post! Sorry I am late to the table on this.

Absolutely right about "Hissing....", my favorite Joni for sure. And love "Shadows and Light". I'll forgive you the mixing of the Brecker brothers, sorry, had to bring it up for I am a huge Michael Brecker fan.
Also, I think "Miles of Isles" is just as good as far as a live recording. I think it still gets recognition for that. It was a benchmark in it's day if I remember.

Yeah, I've always thought Joni could do better than cover a Nazareth song. She just doesn't rock and shouldn't have tried.

These three are tops for me. The order changes from time to time so there's no significance to rating them.

Dog Eat Dog is the only Joni album I won't listen to.

The new Chris Bellman cut of the LP is the best that record has ever sounded. It's also an all analog remaster. Buy it.
