This is AOTY contender. Composition, lyrics, production, vocals, synergy, emotion, etc. It’s very strong on all fronts.
Wow, sampled some of this and just dig the heck out of it! Very thankful for threads like this. This kind of music is right up my alley! Now the search is on for the vinyl. finding this at my local shop will be very hard, might have to grab from Ebay or Amazon...but one thing is for certain, I am buying this asap! Just an excellent post by "GuideByJonO)))"!
Glad you liked it! I played it again last night and I'm sure it'll be up near the top of my list come the end of the year. This might be a good place to order the vinyl if you can't find it anywhere else: Home
Yeah. @GuidedByJonO)))'s King Buffalo suggestion led me on a nice little musical journey last night. Of course, my wife was doing the Floyd album namecheck for "Morning Song" off of Longing to Be the Mountain. First, WYWH. Then she shouted out Meddle. Some definite "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and "Fearless" guitar sound there. King Buffalo led to All Them Witches with a heady brew of trippy blues. Their new album, ATW, sure is groovy.
quirky and strangely addictive track... sounds like Linda McCartney singing the lead vocals backed by Stephen Hawking (the scientist) on backing vocals and I mean this in the best possible way..
Both Directions At Once by John Coltrane... and Love Is Dead by CHVRCHES maybe. But those are the only albums from 2018 that I have so far...^^
With the possible exception of Masana Temples , Traden, and ATW, this is my psychedelic aoty thus far... Angel Ontalvo and Vespero - Carta Marina: “Carta Marina is the first collaboration between the guitarist, composer and visual artist Ángel Ontalva (October Equus) and Russian space-prog rockers Vespero. Inspired by images and visions of the "Carta marina et descriptio septentrionalium terrarum", the first map of the Nordic countries to give details and place names, created by Olaus Magnus and published in 1539.”: Carta Marina / official CD digifile, by Ángel Ontalva & VESPERO
Without any question, Colter Wall is a major new talent. He has it all: Voice, lyrics, worldview, production. Just 23, sounds and writes like he's in his late 40s or 50s. I like virtually everything he's done. Hard to believe he won't be a household name at some point, because the package is too good.
@Parachute Woman I hadn't thought that I would be listening to this; here I am enjoying it. I believe that the Laurel Canyon sunshine was what tipped me over. Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour (Audio)
Apologies if these have already been brought up as I'm new to the forum and this thread is almost 90 pages long. Anyway, a couple of my 2018 favorites: Visigoth "Conqueror's Oath" - Great traditional heavy metal that is perfect to get you pumped up for your next Dungeons & Dragons night. "Warrior Queen" is the standout song for me. Conqueror's Oath, by Visigoth Wayfarer "World's Blood" - A black metal album that is actually enjoyable to listen to from an audiophile perspective is a rarity, to say the least. We have Colin Marston to thank for that. In addition the music is just awesome. It's tough to pick a favorite song, but I suppose "On Horseback They Carried Thunder" will do. World's Blood, by WAYFARER
I'm not familiar with this group--but the singer sounds almost uncannily like Peter Hammill to me. Do you know if this is intentional?
There is a Shoegazer Alive site? How fantastic! Does everybody on there miss Asobi Seksu as much as I do, I wonder. I am just playing Lowtide now, and it is everything I hoped for from the review on the previous page: shoegaze swirliness with a hint of Chameleons guitar. Maybe the singer just needs to channel Stevie Nicks a bit more. Australia has been a source of a few great records this year. Tropical **** Storm, School Damage, Pist Idiots and now this one.
