And "First Of May" from that LP is a real winner, and peak Bee Gees. Superb all around!

That video is a riot! I never noticed before just how much bigger (and older) Barry was to Robin & Maurice. Thanks for sharing!

Probably miss the Brothers Gibb as much or more than any other act of the 60's ....such an emotional bond to their music.

Only a two year difference....look how the twins shot up in just three years! Though they hadn't caught up with Barry quite yet...the voices are getting that Bee Gees sound though! Bary looks like he could be 5 years older

Question for Gibb experts out there:

I pulled Gold Vol 1 off the shelf today and wondered what year/venue the concert photograph on the back sleeve originates from. Anyone know?

The credit for "These selections were previously released on ATCO SD33-292" is incorrect since four of the songs are from Best of Vol 2 on RSO label.

    "To Love Somebody"

"Massachusetts" is a very close second.

That's because ODESSA is the real 'Best Of The Bee Gees'. Copies are getting a bit expensive, as it hasn't been reissued in a few years. It seems to be picking up fans, rather than losing them.

Glad I have my "red felt cover" gatefold! Not a scratch or pop or tick. Nice.

I have an original "red felt cover" gatefold version too (though I can't claim no scratches or pops lol). Still a fantastic album to own. :righton:

    None of the above.
    Others: Let There Be Love
I have to vote for "I've Gotta Get a Message To You" from the list but for me the best Bee Gees song of the 60's is the album track "Let There Be Love" from the album "Idea" from September 1968. It has more complex song structure compared to any of the songs in the list.

Cool indeed just to have it. I am not sure why my double vinyl is so clean and noise-free, as I have many old ones that get a few. Unavoidable.

Of the 3 discs in this box only two were original LPs, the third one was a comp made where they reached international success with First. The only really good disc there is the second disc, called Spicks and Specks, with some very good songs in it. The first disc is rather weak compared to what came after.

I will quote my own post to answer a question I have had since late 70s! Last night while browsing live Bee Gees clips on you tube I came across where this cool black & white photo comes from: Feb 4, 1968 from Smothers Brothers television program, and in color!

They lip synched "And The Sun Will Shine" and "Words" but the photo is cropped to remove Colin and Vince (just like they did on 1967-1968 box set a few years ago). Worth noting that only one of those songs is even on Gold Vol 1.

Furthermore, I will now go and LIKE my own post....

@c-eling and @skyblue17 since you are both fans of Gold album, thought I'd bump this old thread and post about back cover photo!

Furthermore, I'm going to pull my old LP out this weekend too!

One of my favorite things about Gold is that "My World" is included. It was one of my early favorites, and one that gets forgotten quite a bit!

It does, even by the brothers.

That song made it into some far east setlists in 72/73, but then sadly didn't even make the oldies medleys on later tours.
