.. so many, it'd take me hours of reminiscing to bring them all to mind... a few : Robin Trower (h/l : J.Tull) Donovan (h/l : Yes) Edgar Winter (h/l : J.Geils) Burton Cummings (h/l : Alice Cooper) James Cotton (h/l : J.Mayall) Albert King (twice h/l : B.B. King) Bobby Bland (twice h/l : B.B. King) Johnnie Taylor (h/l : Albert King) Jimmie Lee Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds (thrice h/l : Stevie Ray Vaughan) Albert Collins (h/l :?) ... memory..Lol Iggy Pop, booed off stage ! - (h/l : Rolling Stones, '81) Santana (twice h/l : Rolling Stones, 1981) Kansas (h/l : Rolling Stones, 1978) Peter Tosh (h/l : Rolling Stones, 1978 ) Black Onyx (h/l : Jimmy Cliff) .. of those listed, I suppose that Robin Trower was the most outstanding in excellence; still, all were great! (even poor Iggy! )

Saw a band called Curse of Lono opening for Chuck Prophet last year. Not the best ever maybe but excellent. Muddy Waters opening for Eric Clapton in 1978.I was a massive Clapton fan at the time and even I thought it was the wrong way round.

Ditto. Also, Metallica "opening" for Guns'n'Roses in 1992 -- actually it was a co-headlining tour, but Metallica happened to play first that night.
Chain (or was it Pirana?) opened for Manfred Mann Manfred Mann opened for Free Free opened for Deep Purple A 4 band gig in Perth in, what, early 1971 at the Beatty Park Aquatic Centre? The stage was set poolside and a few people swam as the bands played!! I say Chain or Pirana as Chain either opened THIS gig or one in early-mid 1970, again at Beatty park, for Canadian rockers Frijid Pink who had just broken out withe their cover of The House of The Rising Sun. So it was either Chain/Manfred Mann/Free/Deep Purple or Pirana/Manfred Mann/Free/Deep Purple and Pirana/Frijid Pink or Chain/Frijid Pink FREE were the best of the lot, just an extraordinary band, sizzling performance that Deep Purple just could not hurdle....despite themselves being in top form!

Oh I just remembered - I saw Nirvana opening for Tad at The Riverside, a small venue in Newcastle UK, around 1991. However, all I can remember about em is that they were loud.
Big fan of Col. Bruce. Codetalkers, Aquarium Rescue Unit, et.al. Never heard him with Hampton Grease Band, tho.
Louder than Tad? Tad seems like they would have just bludgeoned the eardrums. Never saw them (or Nirvana, for that matter).
Good question. Well, I was at least a bit familiar with Tad but not Nirvana. Yeah Tad were loud but I think Nirvana were louder. But heck it was 20 odd years ago.
