:agree:Avalon belongs in the ''most overrated albums'' category IMHO.

A terrific live album! Loads of energy and you get to hear John Wetton's awesome bass playing on Out Of The Blue, The Bogus Man, If There Is Something, In Every Dream Home A Heartache & Do The Strand.

    Siren- 2nd
    For Your Pleasure/Country Life-tied for 3rd

mmm...i think that i fall into the early roxy music camp. they almost seem like two separate entities to me - my dividing line is the siren lp; after that i lost interest, despite the fact that i also own manifesto & avalon on vinyl. to my ears, they seemed to go down a decidedly middle-of-the-road route after siren, with a softer & more disco-oriented feel.

the first five lps are among my favourites by any artist - also the cover artwork was always stunning up to & including 'siren'.

i picked up a used copy of ferry's solo lp 'let's stick together' this week & really enjoy it. if you're exploring roxy music, then it's also worth checking out those solo lps from ferry - he does a great job covering songs by other artists; his versions of, 'hard rain' (dylan) and the old standard, 'these foolish things' (not sure who wrote this without checking) are excellent. as is his cover of wilbert harrison's 'let's stick together'. that lp also has re-workings of five 'early' period roxy music songs in a more bluesy/jazzy vein.

S/T and For Your Pleasure are still my favorites, after that Country Life, Avalon and Stranded. The only albums I don't rank as high would be Siren, Flesh and Blood, and Manifesto

It's bad when you can't remember if you already posted in a thread...

But in case I haven't, Roxy Music faves are:

    Country Life
    Stranded
    For Your Pleasure
    S/T

Siren and Avalon are pretty far back tied for 5th place.

How is the vinyl of Stranded? I bought Siren the other day, as wasn't impressed by the recording. Is Stranded any better?

Roxy is one of the bands where I find it impossible to pick my favourite. The first four albums all are strong contenders. "Viva" is a great live album and "Avalon" ends things on a high.

Have three copies of "Roxy Music" on vinyl, UK and German originals and the EMI 100 pressing. Amazingly all sound different.

No worries - "Stranded" is worth the extra star. My favourite Roxy album.

  19. I like all of their albums, although I'd approach Manifesto and Flesh & Blood with caution if you're a new fan.
