Hmm. In that case, I'll probably stick with my original for Mirage. But get the vinyl Tango In The Night. Thanks for the info.

Yessir, gotta pick and choose - if you already have a UK OG Mirage in good condition, you're probably set.

The 'Alternate Mirage', however, may be calling your name ;)

You may also want to check your response to my statement "I think you might be confusing the terms, DMM is direct metal mastering it does not imply digital."
where you highlighted some areas to the wikipedia info that makes no sense at all with my statement. Feel free to keep arguing but don't expect any further replies.

Oh! I nearly forget, your avatar suits you well.

the original recording is digital, 16 bits, so increasing to 24bit for mastering likely won't add much.

I don't have any FM deluxe sets since I'm not necessarily interested in buying new cds and was happy with my W.German 1982/ 87 vinyl editions. Got the alternate discs as standalone vinyl releases for the last two RSDs. Both have "CB" in the deadwax.

Are the alternate versions very different to the songs in the regular album?

Agreed. It's not digital, they just didn't cut to lacquer. They cut to a copper disc. Most of Steve Albini's records tend to be cut DMM and he record to analog tape.

The original Tango in the Night is absolutely digital.

Just because it's DMM doesn't mean that it is or isn't digital sourced, either way.

In this case, 16b digital source + DMM cutting process vs analog source, mastered by CB + RTI pressing.

That's what we're talking about, specifically.
