Dusty should really be getting more love on this thread. She's got my vote.

Some folks are focusing too much on "white" and forgetting that "soul/blues" were part of the description. :D

    My picks:

    Peter Wolf
    Southside Johnny
    Graham Parker (with the Rumour)

All these guys had the voices, the attitude, knowledge of the canon, and most importantly, white-hot bands that could play R&B.

jess roden is one killer singer. james dewar is another whos voice sound so awesome. dusty springfield is great from the female soul contingent. van morrison is wonderful and i'm a big fan but some of his soul stuff is done so fast live its hard to understand what he's saying half the time. darryl hall is also really good back in the day.

There are too many great ones for me to name one. I've seen some of my favorites already listed, so I'll just post one that you may not have heard before.

Didn't read every reply in this thread, but I saw most of the usual names that came to my mind. So, to be a little controversial, how 'bout Rick Astley? Most of his recorded output was pretty lame but I always thought he had a wonderful, powerful, and yes, soulful voice. Too bad his career wasn't managed a bit better.

As was the case in my earlier post (23) in this thread about Elvis, we sometimes overlook the obvious. "White" Soul has never been sung better than by Timi Yuro. She defined it.
