Just thinking the other day that the era of cool movie franchises has sort of come to an end.
Over the last few decades, we were thrilled Star Wars, Back To The Future, Alien, Matrix, Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, Pirates Of The Caribean, ...
Some are still going of course (Star Wars, Star Trek and Alien reboots, Marvel series, Sin City,...) but the sense of anticipation and excitement has waned (although The Avengers Infinity War was a doozy).

    There’s room for more.

Just has to be new and exciting again.

  4. Broadly speaking, I’d rather more new material than the seemingly endless franchises (and remakes, for that matter).

    I'm all for re-booting the newer re-boots.

Huh? If you eliminated the "franchise" movies you'd have nothing left out of Hollywood.

I meant new franchises. There always room for a new epic film trilogy

A proper DUNE series would be a good start (might be better served as an HBO series). The world’s, arguably, best sci-fi series should not be confined to a single badly edited film or a mediocre SyFy TV miniseries.

I’m also surprised I’ve never seen an Aleister Crowley biopic. You’d think the world’s most famous wizard/spy/mountaineer/drug addict/Black Sabbath muse would make for interesting filmmaking.

Hollywood loves movies aimed for teenagers.
