Does anyone remember when the Black Crowes started selling their shows online? They have live shows fom 1997 but I seem to remember them not doing it til more around 2005.
Did they put up past shows and a more recent time?
Any help would be appreciated on the live catalogue releases.

The band's archivist is known as 'boa'. He holds the goods - as in the bands live recordings and unreleased recordings. He is the Crowes' archivist.

In 2005 the live downloads things started happening. Also during this time Instant Live (boa - band archivist) was also releasing shows for sale. If one were to collect the shows you'd have split folders of shows from 2005 by Instant Live and another folder of the Crowes' 'Live Downloads.

Instant Live stopped recording shows as of August 12, 2006 - that's the last IL I have of the band.

    The Live Downloads is another matter. Those shows cover the years of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013.

So the ones from 1997 were not being sold in 97? They were added later?

Yes that's correct - boa (the Crowes' archivist) didn't have a website in 1997 that one could buy FLAC, WAV or mp3 files.
You can see what's been released and what remains in the Crowes' archives by visiting: www.crowesbase.com

Instant Live is a separate entity from boa.
Boa releases past Crowes (soundboard) shows via: nugs.net presents LIVEBLACKCROWES | Download MP3 FLAC
Boa is also a taper and has released for free audience sourced recordings that he has personally recorded of the band.
The shows on Live Black Crowes are purely soundboard and are from the Crowes' archives.

Do you remember which shows we're available for free download with the Lions CD promotion insert?
Also I think they made available one track per week so you could download your own compilation, do you remember what those were?
I missed out on the Lions promo and would love to know what I could have had with it.
    Thanks.

The shows you're wondering about are listed on www.crowesbase.com!
    The designation code is "V2-DL".
Go to the section that says 'search the setlist - type in 2001 - hit 'search setlist' - and all the shows from 2001 pop up. You'll also see the designation code of 'V2-DL'. Those are the shows that were available to grab with the Lions release.

Boa also releases a SBD from time to time - you can find them at bt.etree.org.

Did they offer any art with the Lions shows like they have on their site or were they downloads only?

What is that font that you used for the artwork?

I'm surprised you don' t have that Anderson - doing what you've done for the Crowes!?!

BDgalaquadra is the font I used - seems to be the closest used for Lions.

I thought it fitting to use artwork from the appropriate eras for the Crowes downloads. I despise the Spusta artwork that is slapped across the spectrum of Crowes downloads. :thumbsdow

Here's some more art I've made for the different years of Crowes shows that I like and using elements of the iconography the band used in that era :

Is there a peak period for them in concert? Seen CRB a few times, the vibe is great very mellow...

Yeah - their best period live and studio was 1992 - through 1997.
Then in 2005-2006 - the rest of the years your mileage may vary.

Wow. The artwork for the Astoria Show from '96 is brilliant.
