I agree that there will never be an artist like him, but i'm not gonna pretend to like his recent albums, or look forward to another lame covers album because it's Dylan. I can think of many other Dylan albums and archive releases i'd rather be listening to, or other music for that matter.

I'm greatly looking forward to this but yeah it won't appeal to every Bob fan. However I plan to spend the next 3 months with the Basement Tapes.

Johnny Cash put out some incredible cover albums in the American Recordings series during the late autumn of his years, and Bob Dylan "the song stylist" is capable of doing the same, IMO.

Great, you don't like Dylan's post 97 work. Your opinion is noted. I hope you think I'm not trying to change your view on that at all because I'm not. However, you should know that you are in the minority on this. Since 97, Dylan's new albums have sold well and have been well-received by both fans and critics. I am looking forward to this new record because I tremendously enjoy Dylan's new records and his archival releases.

If Shadows In The Night is what we think it is -- an album of mid-20th century standards and pop ballads -- it should really come as no surprise to anyone, since he's done those type of songs in his live shows many times: All My Tomorrows....We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me). And IMO, his solo version of Soon, from the Gershwin tribute in the '80s, was stupendous:

They took it down from bobdylan.com, so it must be on the back burner now. Maybe next year?

Bob dylan played "stay with me" at the Dolby theatre tonight! This is a song reportedly recorded for the new lp.

When was the last time played new material before a record came out?

I just snagged a ticket for the Beacon Theater, and I hope to hear some Basement Tape tunes. But, I will be delightd if he plays new material, like this.

Rod Stewart started the recent trend....

Harry Nilsson originally lead the surge with his excellent a touch of Schmilsson in the night but that was in the early 70s and killed his career (he didn't seem to care and would've killed it anyway with his pending downward spiral of drugs and booze), but that album--a touch of-- once you adjust to its authenticity and 100% non-rock is great...his voice was amazing

What's more is there's a bbc special of him singing live with an orchestra and wow! He had crazy stage fright which is a shame as he had a ridiculous level of talent

ain't no trends being followed by this project, just a wise man's nose & whims.
unfortunately probably won't be starting any trends either...just general pedantry puzzlement most likely

Tell me the guy can't sing? Wow. When he's in the zone, he can put anything across. Wherever Frank is now, he's proud of Bob.

The only Dylan album of the last 15 years I didn't immediately buy and love was the Christmas release. I think the guy is amazing.
