Total guitar magazine just voted Brian May as the greatest of all guitarists.

I know many may well disagree, but his playing, writing and innovations had a huge impact on the guitarists that followed.
Even though I may not completely agree, it is not a choice I feel negatively about.

    Congratulations Mr May

Steve Vai and Nuno Bettencourt react to Brian May being crowned greatest rock guitarist | Guitar World

Apologies if this has already been posted. I couldn't find it anywhere.

I thought this was going to be a poll for best guitarist in Queen.

Best guitarist of all time? Love Brian May, but this is just silly.

One of the few "classic" guitar tones I actively dislike. Good player though.

Wrote a couple of memorable solos but that's it.

Hendrix would be the one I'd vote for as having the most impact and having the most greatest songs.

Would be nice if he had even one memorable solo.

“This is a totally appropriate recognition in my opinion,” Vai says

Love Brian, but putting him above Hendrix, Page, Blackmore, Iommi...not so sure about that.

May is an excellent guitarist with a marvelously unique voice and no shortage of creativity.

    But best ever.... absolutely ludicrous.

Nothing but love for Brian May, but he's not in the top 20.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock you, Brighton Rock, Killer Queen. I could keep going if you want.

Thinking holistically, Brian May is a most worthy winner of this accolade. He's a songwriter, a performer and, most importantly, a pioneer.

He brought something completely new to the table, as acknowledged by Vai and Bettencourt but also Zappa, no less.

Brian May is the greatest all-rounder in the world of the guitar. Freddie Mercury was the greatest all-rounder of all. Both are (were) leaders in their respective fields. To think, they were in the same band! Mindblowing!

    Many congratulations, Dr May.

15 seconds of twangin' on Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a memorable solo? To each his own I guess.

Maybe they should rename the Poll 'Best Guitarist Who's NOT Jimi Hendrix.'

Best guitarist? What does that even mean?

I think it was Bartok who said that competitions are for horses, not for music. I agree.

I like his solo on Killer Queen. But he was one of those guys that didn't really take chances on stage. Anyway, there is no one greatest rock guitarist. If there was it might be Danny Gatton or somebody a bit more versatile than Brian May.

It's not flashy, but Brian's solos tended to suit the song and were very well-written parts. In a way, comparable to what George did in his solos on Beatle songs.

You fail to realize that Brian Setzer is the greatest guitarist in the UNIVERSE.

"Best ever" is always contentious but he suits Queen and made a whole bunch of memorable records. I prefer him to some of those rated higher by posters above, that's for sure.
