I agree that Madonna controls her career in a way Britney has never been able to, she's very astute when it comes to business and self-promotion. She wouldn't have lasted this long if she didn't know how to play the game, she has bigger balls than a lot of the men in the industry.

It's hardly surprising that Madonna has released more albums than Britney, she started her career 16 years earlier. Still, Britney is set to release her ninth album soon (in 17 years), that's only four less than Madonna (she released seven albums in the same time frame). Madonna had pretty decent quality control up until Music in 2000 but three of the five studio albums she has released since 2003 had disappointing reviews. MDNA was nothing more than an excuse to tour. She even admitted she wasn't pleased with the finished album. Ray of Light has a few good songs on it (Little Star, Power of Goodbye, Nothing Really Matters), but Confessions on a Dance Floor is vastly overrated.

The Max Martin production on Britney's early albums was everywhere in the 1990s and early 2000s. It's a distinct sound that hasn't dated very well. Britney's problem is she's never evolved as an artist, everything she has released in the last ten years sounds the same. Madonna has always followed fashions and trends. She has a habit of jumping on bandwagons that are popular (new jack swing, R&B, urban, electronica, trip hop, folktronica, Timbaland, EDM, Avicii) which means there's more diversity in her work.

Yay to watching her videos fully muted, while listening to some real music played by somebody else. Same goes for all the other contrived eye-candy "pop divas".

The album cover is the most Madonna-esque thing about that record. :p

I'm happy to bring a little light into his life.

Apparently, the new album is her strongest work since Britney Jean.

There's a rumor going around that she might perform at the VMAs on August 28th. She cancelled these two shows:

I need it on vinyl. That's the only way to hear the true sonic fidelity in Britney's music.

What's the betting it ends up being more Glory Hole than plain Glory?

I liked her earlier school girl uniform period... strictly for artistic reasons, mind you. It had a certain kind of Japanese Quentin Tarantino-esque quality about it.

Sometimes I just want to listen to pop divas. Britney and Katy Perry do it well. There's really no harm in this.
