As a session player, Buzzy can be heard playing the vibraphone on albums by Buffy St. Marie, Carly Simon, Cat Mother & the All-Night Newsboys, Moogy Klingman, John Sebastian (on a great track called Magical Connection from the John B. Sebastian album) and Jimi Hendrix (Electric Ladyland and Cry of Love).

Thanks Buzzy for all the music!
I hope this opens eyes and ears to your great legacy and maybe opens wallets to buy your music!! You deserve it, Buzzy!

    Buzzy Linhart & Seventh Sons -- Raga (4 A.M. At Frank's) 1964 on ESP-Disk

Buzzy moves through the years to create so much incredible music...keep listening below...

RAGA (4AM At Farnk's) A strange trip indeed.

Name another raga-freakout from 1964 that lasts over 30 minutes. or TEN! Pretty far-out stuff and pretty damn good by an amazing unheralded talent in Buzzy Linhart.

A tribute---by good friend of mine, RidgeRob

Sorry to hear of Buzzy's recent physical impairments, but as long as he still has his mind & heart, he can continue to follow his creative muse. Buzzy's close association with Jimi Hendrix was enviable, and no doubt a great learning experience (as in R U?) for him, as it would be for any aspiring musician. More enviable still was his status as Carly Simon's partner for a short time before she hooked up with James Taylor; that was about the time she made the fetching No Secrets album cover. Such a wonderful way to spend ones youth in a period which was undoubtedly the best era to be young which has yet occurred in modern cultural history. I wonder if Buzzy would agree with that assessment.
Like so many others, I recall seeing Buzzy for the first time in the intro segment of The Groove Tube four decades ago. Marvelous sketch comedy classic which founded the genre, spawning numerous imitators, few of which were nearly as good; if only Ken Shapiro had continued actively making satiric films. Has Buzzy kept in touch with him over the years? Shapiro seems to have disappeared from any noticeable media presence for a generation now. Its our loss.
The opening sequence transitioning between the clever 2001 parody and the hitchhiking scene with Buzzy holding his thumb out is a perfect segue to the pickup & chase thru the woods, pursuing the same carnal instincts as our "boogieing" hominid forebears. Incidentally, where was that scene shot (circa 1972-3, I presume)? Obviously somewhere in upstate New York (Taconic State Parkway?). Im wondering if anyone has returned to that site to see if lovely Richmond Baier, who vanished into thin air onscreen and likewise from any other screen appearances afterward (truly a one-hit wonder), might still be elegantly running naked thru the glades there. Im sure people often ask Buzzy what became of her (as if he should know? She eluded his embrace in the foliage, after all). This might allow him to finally give them an answer! [IMG]

Today's hot platter is buzzy by Buzzy Linhart. For me, this disc really evokes the mood of the late-sixties era with its heady mix of R&B, eastern sitar sounds and coffeehouse folk music.

The following interview is the long version of what turned out to be the last interview I had completed for 20th Century Guitar magazine. After publishing for 17 years, TCG became the latest casualty in an economy that takes no prisoners and has ceased publishing. Anyway, the mag interview was set for 3000 words and thanks to the miracle of the internet, Love you Albert Arnold Gore!...here's the original, complete version with 13,000+ words.

When the booking company Midnight Sun emerged on the Philadelphia scene in the early 1970s, their first major move was to obtain the usage of the now-legendary Tower Theater in Upper Darby PA. Opening night consisted of an early and late show by Dave Mason, whose mother-in-law ended up sitting next to me at the early show. Buzzy opened that show, becoming the first act to play the Tower stage in the rock era.

Didn't he play on Tim Buckley's Star Sailor album.? That is a great album. A bit of a challenge but if you are willing, very enjoyable.

I was at the early show, one of the first rock concerts I ever attended. Just telling someone about it the other day, as we happened to be driving by the Tower. Funny, I completely forgot Dave Mason was headlining, I only remembered Buzzy. Went out and bought the MUSIC record after seeing him. Glad he's still around!

Bump, so it will be on my radar. I used to have or maybe still have a double lp of Buzzy's. I haven't played it in years. For me he was always "that guy who played thos lovely vibes on Cry Of Love's My Friend." I would occasionally see something about him in the press or see an album. One can't forget a cover like Pussycats Can Go Far.

Has he passed away? I backed him up on bass about 15 years ago. His health was not good.

Here is his site...pretty cool. Where one can buy his music. It even says his NEW music releases.
I am not sure of Buzzy's general health..there was a benefit for his medical expenses a decade ago, but as far as news, Buzzy by all appearances is still alive and hopefully doing well.

Thanks for sharing that you played bass for Buzzy. Any stories or tidbits would be welcome! Such an amazing talent and person...what a life.
Buzzy needs far more recognition for his more than half a century of his contributions to MUSIC!!!
