CD compilations done right!

A couple favorites that I haven't seen mentioned...

 

Pink Floyd - Echoes - The Best Of

Booklet credits:

To compile this album, the original analogue master tapes were played back on custom tape machines built by The Mastering Lab (1/4 inch) and Tim de Paravicini (1/2 inch). Custom valve EQ was by Esoteric Audio Research. 24 bit Analogue to Digital converters by dB Technologies fed the SADiE workstation. Monitoring DACs were by dCS.'

I like the cross-fade between tracks, and I think the tracklist is much better than 'A Foot In The Door'. Also, having the (almost) full version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond is great.

When this came out, I stood in a record store in Kitchener ON and went up
and down the list of tracks to see what was left off. I couldn't think of a single
one. It turned out to be a good purchase.

This is one of the best threads I've seen since I first visited back in the summer As a result, I've created a bunch of playlists and am buying a few of these on CD. Keep them coming!

Essential Nilsson has a very good tracklisting IMO, and I've always loved Asia's Anthologia.

 

I prefer this comp:

 

True, the selection of songs is much better and "complete". But we must bear in mind that this selection has a much worse DR. Maybe for many that does not matter and I must respect it. I insist, as song selection "Complete Clapton" is much better choice.

With the advent of burning your own CDs, it's too easy. Mind you I did the same with LP Rips to my Cassettes, way back last Century..
