Forgot about that one! The first Patsy album I ever owned. (I had the earlier version with the green cover.) Twelve solid selections.
Good call. A rare 80's CD that actually has bass to it. Found my copy a few months ago at a Goodwill for $2.
From the same series, I grabbed this one for a couple of euros because I had read here that it was the one with the best sound. Mastered by John Matousek.
That's the speed I'm used to hearing it at. I haven't heard the latest remaster and don't doubt it's great. I do have an unboxed Decca label original UK vinyl pressing and think the London CD compares well. I've always loved it. It was one of my first CDs. I admit I always thought the vocals sounded strange on Beggars Banquet. It was many years before I knew why! Even if the remasters better them, I've always liked these CDs. I prefer the old Neil Young Everybody Knows...
Anyone knows how's the sound quality on early CD pressings of R.E.M.'s Murmur and Reckoning? Are they even better than the ones from the I.R.S. Years Vintage series (1992)?
The first few Simply Red albums have a great sound and tone - especially the Euro WEA issues - 'Picture Book', 'Men and Women' and 'A New Flame'. You could even put 'Stars' into the group even though its from 1991
I can't speak of all previous releases but the Japan for USA pressings catalog #'s respectively CD 70014 and CD 70044 most certainly do and in fact are far better than the MFSL releases.
I'm not an audiophile but I always thought this Elton John compilation sounds pretty good. There's currently a seller on Amazon offering it for $2.29.
I have the early Murmur pressing on CD and your query prompted me to give it a spin and sample it via my headphone rig (my setup is under my profile). I don't have the '92 for comparision, but I think it sounds excellent (and probably what the original LP sounded like). It's a nice, dynamic recording (the average DR is 14 if these things matter to you). Unfortunately I've grown too accustomed to the MFSL treatment of this title (my personal preference only), so the original doesn't get a lot of play on my end these days.
Yep that DM is a real gem for sure... And they are getting harder to find... I have 3 copies so I am set but I notice them going up in price... All of us on SHF are probably 95% to blame for increase
I have that one, and never knew it was "compiled" by Steve. I wonder what other treasures that I have overlooked...…..
Another co-sign for Rhino comps. They are, by far, the most represented label in my collection, and I'm proud to say I own many complete sets. The AM Gold series is also excellent.
Stereo '57 - Essential Elvis, Volume 2. Even when matched against fine Elvis Presley remasters by the likes of Kevin Budd and others, this CD still holds up quite magnificently. The sound is warm and endlessly pleasurable to listen to, not to mention that the actual contents are truly essential for Elvis fans. The title sort of sells it short; it's not another generic comp, but rather a fantastic collection of outtakes (with some masters appended to the end).
